IDL Evidence – Sing/sign Scottish Nursery Rhymes

The Asteroids have enjoyed learning and singing some Scottish songs as part of our topic, Brave.
We have all made good attempts to sign some of the words in the songs and some of us have been singing too.
We laughed at some of the funny Scottish words. One of our favourite songs is ‘You Cannie Shove Yer Grannie aff a Bus”.

Name parts of a castle – IDL Social Studies evidence

We have been working very hard this week on our IDL topic, Brave. Merida and her family stay in a castle and so, we have been exploring castles. We have been learning the names for parts of castles by looking at clips on the board, completing worksheets and we even designed and made our own cardboard box castle so we could decorate and label it.

Super work, Asteroids!

IDL evidence – 3D castle

As part of our Brave theme, we have been looking at castles this week. We have enjoyed looking at castles on the board and finding out where there are castles in Scotland, Do you know there are over 1000 castles in Scotland?

We made our very own castle, using pictures to help our design. We chose which castle to try and copy and which box to use. We also decided which colours and materials to use to decorate it.

We were all very happy with the way it turned out!

50 Things – Wheels

What a sunny day we had to complete our 50 Things outdoor activity. Using a variety of bikes and scooters, we made good attempts to make our wheels turn at speed, using control to go in different directions. Great job, Asteroids!

Christmas Jumper and Christmas Party Days

The Asteroids were looking super Christmassy on Friday when we came to school wearing our Christmas jumpers or were dressed down.

This morning, we all had great fun meeting Santa and toasting marshmallows.

This afternoon we had our Christmas party. We played some party games, danced and enjoyed a wee snack. Rudolph even joined in the fun! 🙂

Our Corners winner!

FAOL Enterprise – Christmas Baubles

We had a lovely festive time making Christmas baubles for our family members.
We followed spoken/signed or written instructions and filled one of our baubles with chocolates and one with a photo of each of us wearing a Santa hat.

We also discussed who we might give our fabulous Christmas gifts to.

We were very proud of the lovely gifts we made! I hope our families like them!

Celebrating St. Andrew’s Day

The Asteroids have been successful learners finding out about the life of St. Andrew.
We showed great confidence celebrating Scotland by taking part in different Scottish activities.

We learned about the Scottish flag and the sign for Scotland/Scottish and made our very own saltire using tissue paper. We used this knowledge to hunt for Scottish food produce. When we found the foods with the Scottish flag, we had our own wee Scottish snack. We were very confident and tried some food we’d never had before – well done!

We also enjoyed listening to Scottish music and ‘burlin’ each other around when we did some ceilidh dancing. We also took part in singing/signing some Scottish songs – some words were funny!

Children in Need

The Asteroids class have enjoyed learning about Pudsey Bear and Children in Need.

The boys enjoyed coming to school dressed in their Children in Need t-shirts, pyjamas or casual clothes. They painted their very own Pudsey Bears with moveable arms and legs and decorated cupcakes with bright yellow icing and colourful spots. They enjoyed listening to a story with Mr Tumble and of course, Pudsey too.

Here are some photos from our day:

Lost #50 Things

Yesterday, the Asteroids had lots of fun in the garden playing a game of Hide and Seek. Firstly, we had to choose who was going to look and who was going to hide. When the boys were looking, they did a good job of counting to 20 before going off to find their friends. Then those who were hiding chose places such as behind trees and sheds and even under bushes!

Remembrance Day

Today, the Asteroids were responsible and participated well in Remembrance Day activities.
We looked at poppies and their colours and how poppies are produced in Scotland. We made our own poppies using different materials: we used red and green play dough to make poppy shapes, we made a poppy sun catcher using tissue paper and we decorated a biscuit with red icing and a chocolate button for the centre.
