FAOL – Transition’s Expressive Art

Successful Learners & Effective Contributors

The Transition class all showed great interest in this week’s art lesson… expressive art!

Working together from one large sheet of paper, the pupils were given the freedom to create their own marks and drawings, using varied resources:

  • coloured markers, paint, pencils & pens
  • charcoal
  • crayon and pastels
  • paint brushes or different sizes and textures
  • rollers
  • stamps
  • stencils
  • sponges

Once the paper dried, the designs were used to make these lovely personalised cards. Absolutely fabulous work boys!

Expressive art inspired cards. Fab!
Looks messy…but the end results are wonderful!

FAOL – Bluebells solve design challenges.

Successful Learners & Confident Individuals.

In order to recognise World Book Day on 5th March 2020, the pupils in the Bluebells class demonstrated excellent understanding whilst creating paper weave bookmarks.

These are created by using four strips or paper and glue.

All of the children actively participated and through curiosity and imagination this design problem was solved.

Keep up the hard work everyone!

Hayden carefully gluing down the four strips of paper.
Levi was quick to use his new bookmark in his favourite ‘Teletubby’ book. We read this together after our art lesson.

LGBT Activities

On Friday afternoon we were all effective contributors and took part in LBGT Activities. Each Class planned an activity and then we all got a turn to carry it out – there was jigsaw hunting, purple sensory activities, painting a  rainbow canvas, making purple hand prints and testing the pH of different liquids.

Our Class Activity involved lots of different colourful fruits – they were set out like a rainbow and you had to choose pieces and make a funny face on a paper plate and then taste them.

Fairtrade Shoppers

Responsible Citizens – Successful Learners- Effective Contributors

The Snowdrops listened to a story about Freddie and Flora and their quest for fairness.  We all explored baskets of shopping and had to find the Fairtrade mark.  The Snowdrops worked together sorting out the different foods.  We had lots of Fairtrade bananas and enjoyed tasting them!

A wee trip out.

On Wednesday morning we were all confident individuals and made a trip out to Dewaldens Garden Centre for morning snack. We went in the mini buses, enjoying the trip through Kilmarnock and arrived there safely. The ladies in the café were lovely and even though it was busy they moved some tables so we could all sit together. We ordered our snacks and enjoyed each other company and then a wee wandered through the shop back to the bus.

Purple Day and LGBT Assembly

*Effective Contributors*   *Responsible Citizens*

This week the Moonbeams enjoyed taking part in some sensory purple activities as well as wearing something purple to celebrate Purple Day. On Wednesday the Moonbeams also helped to present their LGBT Assembly. We spoke about how we are all different and why we should all be proud to be who we are. At the end of Assembly we invited all the classes up to have a little Pride Party. The children enjoyed dancing with lots of colourful props.

Prom Update!

The Prom committee was hard at work this morning as we continued preparing for our 2020 casino themes prom!  We tested out some of the casino games we have acquired, designed our invites and finished off some of our centrepieces.  We were very responsible citizens and worked hard to follow all instructions during each activity.
