P3 were excited to meet Barney the Dinosaur!
We were so lucky to have a visit from the ‘Dino Team’ today! Kevin entertained us with fun and games and some of us got to hold a real snake!
We also had a visit from Barney the T-Rex. We had to feed him and take him a walk. We also explored how tall a T-Rex would have been and how long it would have grown to be.
An exciting afternoon to celebrate all the work we did during our ‘Dinosaur’ topic!
Hallowe’en Disco???
We had 3 busy discos with Onthank pupils unrecognisable, dressed in super costumes?. Thank you to PTA and all volunteers who helped to make the night a success! Happy Hallowe’en?
Reminder for P1,2 and 3 pupils: You are asked to come to school dresssed up on Friday to take part in a Hallowe’en Parade. Please make sure your outfit is comfortable to wear all day. ??

P1-P3 Hallowe’en Activities
On Friday 26 October P1, P2 and P3 pupils are asked to come to school dressed in their Hallowe’en costumes. Please try to make sure costumes are suitable for children to wear all day or can be removed easily. Children will be involved in a Hallowe’en Parade and activities in the morning. We are also having a Hallowe’en menu in our dining hall. The menu is blood red soup (tomato), cauldron curry with rice (chicken), wiggly worms with salad (veg noodles), witch’s fingers in the graveyard with mash and veg (sausage in gravy) and wizard cupcakes.
Christmas Choir
The choir is open to all P6 and P7 pupils and will be organised by Miss Hamilton and Mrs Klein.
It will run 3pm to 4pm in Mrs Klein’s room starting on Wednesday 7th November and ending on Wednesday 12th December.

NWKLEUS Finalist?
Councillor McKay and Sharon came to assembly to announce Tulisa’s design was the Onthank Finalist in the NWKLEUS Logo Competition. We were shown how Tulisa’s drawing was made by graphics into the logo above. Good luck Tulisa, we will find out the winner next Monday. There is a finalist from Hillhead and Mount Carmel .

Welcome Back P5i
It was nice welcoming all the children back this morning and I hope everyone had a lovely break.
Spelling homework for this week ( due on Friday) is the sound ‘ae’ and the many different combinations that make this sound, as in: ‘ai’ ‘ay’ ‘ey’ ‘ei’ ‘a-e’ …
Maths homework ( due on Thursday) is the 6 times table and a recap of fractions taught in P4 – which should be completed neatly in homework jotters.
Could I also ask parents to support their children as they continue to learn their times tables and improve their weekly ‘Learn Its’ score. As discussed on Parent’s Night, children are expected to recall number facts on sight and therefore need much more practice as they are accumulated each week.

A reminder for all P6 pupils to come to school tomorrow wearing full outdoor clothing to work again with the Dean Park Rangers. The weather looks to be wet tomorrow so could the children please have a full change of school uniform and shoes in their bags.

We can’t believe the first term is already over – it has gone in so quickly!
We are tickled pink to be on holiday – especially our staff team who wore pink today to raise money for Breast cancer.

P4M Built This City !
We used recycled materials and all created unique buildings to represent an authentic New York skyline. We are sure you will agree that every building is amazing ! A big thanks to the grown ups for helping us at home.

Dramatic drama in P5E
Mr McIlwraith and Steven Swan led a drama activity with our class today. Pupils were acting out a scene from the film Snow White. They had to think about using their voices, facial expressions, body movement and props effectively. The pupils had a great time. There were some Oscar winning performances!

Today we were given a paired STEM challenge to construct a Zip Line experience for a LEGO Minifigure.

Active Maths fun and games
Today the children in P4E were rounding numbers to the nearest thousand!! We played Hullabaloo rounding cards with our friends and playing card BANG!! Where we round our 4 playing cards to the nearest thousand. Well done P4E.
P6 and Dean Park Rangers
Our P6 classes will be working with the Dean Park Rangers again and will be heading outdoors for another session.
Children should come to school dressed in outdoor clothing, have wellies/boots, waterproof jacket and their school uniform in their school bag to change in to, as a back up.

P5B Knights and Castles Creations
P5B have been making a variety of fantastic Knights and Castles creations at home. We have had some excellent castles, maces, shields and swords. We also had a super PowerPoint from Oliver and an interesting fact file from Logan.
Well done to all the children and parents/grandparents who helped with the creations – Miss Black was very impressed!
P5E Topic Homework (part 1)
P5E made a super effort with their topic homework this term and brought in a variety of work that showed their knowledge of Knights and Castles. Thank you to anyone at home who helped and it would seem the children enjoyed the experience. More pictures will be added if any pupils have yet to bring in their work.

P5B Trip to Dundonald Castle
Primary 5B visited Dundonald Castle on a wet and windy day, nevertheless that did not stop the fun. Children got the opportunity to dress up as knights and princesses in a day which consisted of visiting the dungeons filled with creepy-crawlies, dressing up as Vikings, taking part in some falconry with an owl and also learning about knights equipment.
There were a few tired faces at the end of the day – the steep hill leading up to the castle must have tired the children out! Despite the weather all children had a great time.
Thank you to the parent helpers who came along, we hope you had fun too!
P5i Parent’s Night
Thank you to all parents who were able to attend last night. It was nice having the opportunity to put faces to names and to discuss the progress of pupils. Although it was a busy event with short appointment times, I enjoyed learning more about each child and discussing ways to help them get the most out of their time in P5i.
If you were unable to attend I am more than happy to arrange an appointment for another day. Please phone the office to arrange a suitable time to meet after school. I am available most days until 5:00.

P5i Homework Helpers
Parents, are you stuck helping the kids with their homework?
Fear no more because help is on hand. Just ask your child! They know what they have to do and they know how to do it.
Over the past few weeks we have been learning about phonemes, digraphs and diacritical marking. Diacritical what? you may ask.
Well, here are photos to show your little treasures in action as they use diacritical marking during active spelling today – and haven’t they done well.
Why not ask them to tell you about it and then have a go yourself. Like the kids, you’re sure to enjoy it.
And thankfully this afternoon the rain stopped long enough for us to go for a quick jog around the playground. As you can see, it fair livened them up!

West Sound School of the Week???
Thank you to Tiegan P4 who nominated Onthank for West Sound School of the Week next week. Please listen to the radio in the morning before school and every day around 3.30pm this week. Some pupils were interviewed and asked about their favourite things.
