Rights Respecting Schools: Dog Fouling Campaign!
As a whole school, we are going to fight against the smelly dog poo that gets left on the streets of New Cumnock. As the week progresses, I will release a video explaining in more detail as to what the campaign is. However, the first thing we need to do is to choose a poster that is going to go alongside the campaign. Below are a couple of super examples that other communities have used.. but we want to have a bit of New Cumnock to ours so be as creative as you possibly can! Your teacher will send your poster to Mr McClure and he will then put the best posters to a vote to decide which one we will use! Good luck!

Rights Respecting Schools Weekly Activity!
This week at NCPS, we are looking at two very important rights. The breakdown of both of the rights are above in the pictures. Our focus this week is going to be Safer Internet Day. I have attached a PowerPoint below that provides a couple of super activities that I would love for you to complete.

Eco-Committee – Recruitment
If you or your grown up are interested in becoming part of New Cumnock Primary School Eco-Committee then please complete the form below by Friday 5th February. I look forward to reading your application and hopefully forming a new committee very soon!
As the Eco-Committee, it will be our job to work with the other children in our school to make it a more environmentally friendly place.
As part of this you will need to:
Share ideas in weekly Eco-Committee meetings
Carry out an environmental review to measure our school’s performance against the Eco topics
Help create a plan for how we can make New Cumnock P.S eco-friendlier in the next year
Speak to other members of the school community, which might include parents, pupils, members of the public and teachers
Bring ideas from your class to the meetings and also feedback what we have discussed
Be willing to speak in school assemblies
Help write articles for the newsletter
Help the school be more energy effective during its daily running e.g. switching off lights
Help the school achieve an Eco-Schools Award

RRS: We Need You!
At NCPS, we try to integrate Rights Respecting Schools into all areas of our curriculum. Before lockdown, Mr McClure’s class were responsible for rolling out the programme of learning this year…. However, now we are looking for some super support from across the school. This will look like:
- creative ways in visualising the different articles;
- completing the different tasks that will be posted on here;
- creating a video describing the right of the fortnight!

This is the reading scheme we use in school. As we are progressing with new learning, our class teachers will be continuing to use class readers as a resource. Therefore, we strongly encourage you to download these whilst this offer is available.
Spanning 93 books across 5 levels of decodable readers, they will help you to support your children remotely as they practice their reading skills anywhere!

How to get a colour overlay on your device
Appropriate Use Of Microsoft Teams
Our teaching staff and Senior Leadership Team actively monitor the class use of Microsoft Teams and it has came to our attention that in some cases in recent days, class Teams pages have displayed some undesirable behaviours.
- Please keep the general channel related to school work. Your class teacher may add a ‘chatty channel’ which will allow you to chat with your friends, but please refrain from doing this on the general channel as work posts then get lost amongst the chats.
- Make sure that what you are typing is appropriate. Staff and your peers can see this. Any offensive of hurtful comments will be deleted. Please remember to be kind.
- Please be mindful of what time you are accessing Teams. Try to keep this within school hours.
- Whilst in a Live lesson, please conduct yourself as you would be encouraged to be in class, well behaved and mannerly at all times.
We encourage our parents/carers to monitor this closely too.

No Printer… No Problem!
We are aware that many of our families do not have access to a printer. Our teaching staff try hard to not be heavily reliant on worksheets in the daily tasks they set, but sometimes a worksheet perfectly sums up the aim of the lesson.
If you don’t have access to a printer, fear not!
There are some options:
- You can create your own version of the worksheet on paper or in a jotter (please remember we have staff available to assist you at the school between 10am and 12pm Tuesdays and Thursdays if you wish to collect resources to support Remote Learning).
- Alternatively, if you have access to an iPad or iPhone device, you can use ‘mark-up’ to annotate the worksheet and then save as a photo to then submit to the class teacher. The video below shows you how to do this.
