We are delighted to inform our Primary 7 pupils as well as their parents and carers that we have secured a booking for a Primary 7 Residential this session.
Our P7’s will enjoy 3 days (2 nights) at LOCKERBIE MANOR in Dumfries and Galloway! The venue offers amazing facilities and activities including:
And so much more!
The provisional dates we have secured are Wednesday 19th April- Friday 21st April.
We plan to fundraise to keep the costs as low as possible for parents, and the school will make a contribution to the cost as well. There will however be a cost involved for parents, which will be finalised in the coming days. A non-refundable deposit of £50 per pupil will be required to secure a place, payable by Monday 14th September.
We would like to invite all P7 parents who are interested in learning more about the upcoming residential to an information evening at the school on Wednesday 7th September at 6pm where we can offer you a presentation, a breakdown of costs and answer any questions you may have.
In the meantime, please check out LOCKERBIE MANOR online at https://www.manoradventure.com/lockerbie-manor.php
Throughout the school year, we will use a variety of strategies to report to our parents on a regular basis. It is important that you can access each of those detailed below. If you are experiencing difficulty with any of our communication platforms, please contact the school for support.
As we are a paperless school, the School App is our main method of communication when reaching out to our parents quickly with important matters.
To download the app, please search PSA in the Apple of Google Play app stores.
The School Blog will be used to share whole school matters and events with our families.
Please find the link below to the main page. You may find it useful to save this as a shortcut on your mobile device to enable you to access it easily.
The many tabs on the School Blog can be used to navigate a wealth of information about our school which is shared there.

This session we will be using Learning Journals across the whole school from P1-7 to report on individual children’s progress across the curriculum.
Photos and comments about your child’s learning will be shared with our families on a private profile here, enabling you to view, comment and share learning experiences which take place outside of school.
Please ensure that you have submitted your contact details to enable you to access your child’s account.
Our Parent Council are looking for someone to take on the role of SECRETARY.
This person would be required to take minutes at the meetings and circulate these to other council members.
This would be a great addition to your CV and a wonderful way to keep abreast of all the goings on in our school.
If you are interested in taking on this role (open to existing members and new members), please email our Parent Council Chairperson, Mrs Kerry Cooper on:
Please note, our next Parent Council meeting will be held in school on Thursday 22nd September at 6pm. We love it if you could attend and held build our Parent Council forum! We want your voice to be heard!

#glenaftoninthecommunity #aftonarmy #YourTeamOur School App remains our main source of communication between ourselves and our families.
Please make sure you have downloaded the app and select New Cumnock Primary School from the list.
Don’t forget, you can filter the app to receive messages applicable to your child’s class. Please ensure you select ‘whole school’ as well when you do this, so as not to miss whole school messages.
Over the past few years our school role has gradually increased. As a result, we have more children entering and exiting the building. Unfortunately, due to where our school is positioned and the flood works going on along the back lane, we don’t have a large enough waiting area for parents who are collecting younger children at the end of the day. To avoid congestion and ultimately keep everyone safe near the road, we need to continue to use multiple entrance and exit points. The playground is not an option for the entire school, as it was in the past, due to the amount of parents that would now be congregating. Some of our children, for various reasons, would find that situation very overwhelming.
Last week we trialled using the carpark beside the softplay area (gates closed) as a potential waiting area for our infant classes. On Friday afternoon this area was very congested. As a result I would like to change the arrangements slightly at the end of the day only to ensure the safety of our children and parents. Morning drop off will remain as it was, as this worked well.
To support our plans please ensure one adult is involved in dropping off and collecting your child at school. Also, once you have collected your child please clear the playground and boundary around the school as soon as possible.
We will continue to monitor the arrangements above over next week and make changes accordingly.
Can I take this opportunity to thank those parents I have liaised with directly over the past few days regarding the arrangements and also to the wider parent body for their support and patience. I appreciate that this is a lengthy message with yet again more changes, however I’m sure you will understand this is not a straightforward operation. Ultimately, the safety of our children and families is paramount.
As always, we value the views of our families and continue to ask that if you have any questions or queries around operations such as these, to contact us via email or ring the school to make an appointment to speak with a member of the management team and we will happy to discuss these with you.
***All parents who have provided an email address to be linked to their child’s learning journal have now been emailed with a link to create a password and PIN number.***
If you have yet to provide an email that you wish to link your child’s Learning Journal to please complete the form below and this will be actioned ASAP.
Also adding more parents/carers/family members to be able to view your child’s profile is an option that is available. If you wish others in your family to have this access, please complete the form and this will be actioned ASAP
Once added to the system, Learning Journals will then send you the link to get logged in.
For further information, please visit the Learning Journals website by clicking the link below.
The P4-7 Learning Journals are very basic at the moment and once the children are in school and classes are up and running these will develop. More information as to how we as a school intend using the journals will be shared and drop in sessions for trouble shooting and helping with issues will be in place.
Good Afternoon,
Not long now everyone! Myself and all the staff can’t wait to see you on Thursday morning! I hope you have all had a well earned rest with your families.
Please see below new entrance and exit points for you to make yourself familiar with. There will be an adult at each of these points to help you if needed.
New P1’s start at the later time of 9.30am and finish at 12.30pm on Thursday only. Could you please enter the gate identified above instead of the community entrance, as identified in earlier correspondence. P1’s can then gather with parents in the back playground before class teachers lead them into their classes.
Should you wish to speak to a member of staff before Thursday, the school will be open for our in-service day on Wednesday 17th August.
See you soon,
Mrs McMurdo
There are lots of exciting things happening across East Ayrshire this summer for the children.
