New Cumnock Primary Parent’s Group 13/9/23
Parents/carers, you are invited to attend our weekly Parents Group from 2-3pm, in the Parents Room. (Please enter via the main entrance)
For the next 8 weeks, our Parent’s Group will participate in the Families Connect programme, led by Mrs Bradford, our Home Link Practitioner.
Week 1 will run 2-3pm.
Weeks 2-8, we encourage your children to join us 3-3.30pm.
Families Connect is a programme created by “Save the Children” which looks to provide support in:
- numeracy
- emotional language development
- literacy/language development
It builds on parent’s skills and knowledge, providing them with the confidence to support their child’s learning in the home. The programme aims to build relationships between parents and school and provides opportunities for parents to share their parenting experiences with others.
Over the 8 week programme, parents will be encouraged to discuss aspects of their children’s learning during informal workshops. They will be introduced to a series of adaptable techniques, activities and games that they can do with their children to support their children’s learning in the 3 key areas noted above.
Yipworld New Cumnock Family Group
Parents/carers, you are invited to attend a New Cumnock Family Group starting on Tuesday 19th September 2-4pm, ran by Yipworld.
The Family Group functions as 2 groups:
2-3pm, the group is for parents/carers to come along and engage with staff in informal chats which we will use to identify barriers and how we can support either in-house or with external resources (other agencies etc.)
3-4pm, parents/carers are encouraged to bring their kids along at the end of the school day. This is where the group turns to more family-based activities (or remains separate based on feedback from parents/carers who attend) and for games and activities.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION – Parking at school
Parking around our school has always been a huge issue for us. Being on a busy main road, we are often faced with parents/carers parking their cars on the pavements, creating a hazard for our children walking to and from school.
Yesterday morning, one of our pupils was injured by a car on his way to school. Therefore, we are forced to raise awareness of this dangerous issue again.
Parents/carers are not permitted to park in our school car park. Children walking to the playground via the front entrance should enter via the gates at the front of the school and walk round using the allocated pavements. At no point, should anyone be walking across the staff car park to enter or leave the school premises.
We ask for parents/carers to please use the various car park areas situated near our school such as, the local swimming pool or ground next to the Premier store and then walk your child to school using the pedestrian crossings. Under no circumstances should cars be mounted on pavements near the school. This is dangerous and obstructs the pavements for those children walking to and from school.
The health and safety of our children is of the upmost importance, therefore your support and cooperation with this very serious matter is greatly appreciated.

We are a NUT FREE school!
People who suffer from nut allergies can develop a severe, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction.
If someone has a nut allergy it is not just eating nuts that can cause a severe reaction, just being touched on the skin or smelling the breath of someone who has had nuts or a product containing nuts can trigger an allergic reaction which can cause breathing and swallowing difficulties.
Our school staff are trained to use Epi-pens (an injection of adrenalin) which are required immediately if this happens.
We cannot have nuts in school in any form, so please do not put any nut products in your child’s lunch box.

There are many other products that can present a risk, so please check the packaging of products closely.
We appreciate that this is an additional thing to check but we know that you recognise the importance of it.

RRS – Article 24 (Food Bank donations wanted)
This fortnight our Rights Respecting Article we are focusing on is ARTICLE 24- THE RIGHT TO CLEAN WATER, NUTRITIOUS FOOD AND GOOD HEALTH CARE. To support our learning about this article we are asking our families for donations for Ayrshire Food Bank. Please send donations in with your child before Friday 15th September, or drop donations into our front office.
We are a Trailblazing School!
The Trailblazers initiative developed by Ayrshire Roads Alliance has arrived in New Cumnock. Around the village you will see lampposts with signs that say 5 or 10. This indicates either a 5 or 10 minute walk to the school from that point.
We are encouraging anyone who doesn’t fully walk/ cycle or scoot to school (where possible) to park and stride from these points.
You can use a phone to scan the QR codes on these signs daily to answer road safety questions.
What’s the purpose? We want to encourage as many people to actively travel to school! This has lots benefits for health and well-being as well as for our planet.
Each day we will carry out a quick survey and record anyone who has actively travelled the whole way or from the designated points around the village. It would be very much appreciated if you can support this initiative as much as you possibly can!
