This year, Kinship Care Week runs from 17 – 21 March. To mark the event Kinship Care Advice Service for Scotland (KCASS) are hosting information sessions for professionals and for carers. There is also an opportunity for carers to join the East Ayrshire Kinship Carers group at their coffee morning.
Information sessions and events for carers:
Saturday 15 March (11am – 2pm) – East Ayrshire Kinship Carers coffee morning
Join the kinship carers group at CentreStage in Kilmarnock to enjoy a raffle, ‘how many sweeties in a jar’, information stalls and much more. Tickets are £3 for adults, £1.50 for children.

Monday 17 March – Financial Support for Young People aged 16+
It’s never too early to start thinking about the future and what that may hold financially for your family and the children and young people you care for. Join one of KCASS’s specialist helpline advisers for information on the financial entitlements for young people age16+ and the opportunity to ask questions.
Tuesday 18 March – Calming techniques and health rights
Practically every carer has been confronted by a situation when their child and young person doesn’t have the toolkit to regulate their emotions. Children’s Health Scotland will help explain why this might be happening, how to avoid it in the first place, and provide some practical techniques for coping with it when it does happen.
Wednesday 19 March – Blocked care and self-care
Join this workshop with a clinical psychologist to explore the occurrence of blocked care for kinship carers, and the importance of self-care. Find out what blocked care is, what it looks like, why it occurs, how it impacts relationships and parenting, and how to avoid and alleviate it with particular reference to self-care.
Friday 21 March – Education support for kinship carers
An informal opportunity to find out about the education service offered by KCASS and how their education advisors can support your family to get the most out of your child or young person’s education.
