A huge congratulations to our school choir who have been placed in the top 3 in The Robert Burns World Federation school choral competition!

With a lot more schools having entered this year and the standard being extremely high, it is a wonderful achievement to have made it to the top 3 in Scotland for another year!

School Choir

Tonight was our final choir session for the term as we recorded our entry for the Robert Burns World Federation Choral Competition.

A huge thank you to Mrs Wilson for coming along to help us by playing the piano for us each week to help us prepare, we couldn’t do it without her!

Choir Competition Entry

Our school choir are once again entering the National Burns Choral Competition this year.

This is a digital entry which is recorded in school, submitted online and the winner is announced at the National Burns Primary Competition in Gourock on Saturday 1st June.

We have been practising for weeks on our test pieces and will be recording these at our rehearsal this Monday 18th March 3-4pm.

Please complete the Form below to support Mrs McNulty’s preparations for the recording. Please note this Form must be completed for your child to be included in the recording.

School Choir perform in Glasgow

On Saturday 20th January, our school choir were invited to attend and perform at the Glasgow and District Wreath Laying Ceremony in George Square, Glasgow. Mrs McNulty with P6 and P7 choir members performed Burns and Scots pieces at Glasgow City Chambers, at the wreath laying ceremony at the Burns monument in George Square and then again at The Merchants House in George Square. In the absence of a piper, the children were even asked to sing as the procession walked through George Square which the children were delighted to do!
It was a wonderful day, and we were all delighted and honoured to have been invited to be part of it! A huge thank you to Mrs Johnstone and Mr Burns for their help and support on the day!

School Choir Event Sat 20th Jan

Our school choir have been kindly invited to perform in George Square in Glasgow next Saturday as part of a Robert Burns memorial event in the run up to Burn’s birthday.

They will not only be singing at the laying of wreaths at Robert Burns statue in George Square but also at City Chambers and then The Merchants House. What a prestigious event and fabulous opportunity for our talented young people!

The Jean Armour Burns Trust who are organising the event, are kindly funding our transport costs and are also providing the lunch for the children next Saturday too.

At the organisers request, spaces are limited so I can only offer this opportunity to P6 and P7 choir members. Letters will be sent home on Monday with consent slips and information about bus times and what chidlren will be required to wear and bring.

The children were informed of this today so I wanted to let families know to give prior warning.

We are very much looking forward to being part of this event and will meet at various times during the school day next week and indeed at Monday’s rehearsal to prepare for this.

Kind regards,

Mrs McNulty

Mrs McNulty will start afterschool Choir rehearsals from Monday 2nd October.

This will be held every Monday from 3-4pm in the school gym hall. Children will head straight down at the end of the day and can be collected from the door at the rear of the school park, at the end of the session.

This is available to children from P4-7. (An infant singing group will be made available in Term 2 on the run up to Christmas).

We already have our first booking to perform at the Parish Church Thanksgiving Service but will hold some rehearsals during school time to allow us to prepare for this. (Children will be lettered about this event prior.)

If your child wishes to attend, please complete the contact form below.

Entertaining the community!

This weekend has been fun filled with our pupils entertaining the local community at two Burns events.

Firstly, on Friday evening, Arran, Bruce and Quyn performed poetry recitations for the locals at the Afton Lily Burns Supper. They kick started the evening with super performances which were thoroughly enjoyed by their audience.

Following that, on Saturday afternoon, members of our school choir and 1st place poetry winners from each class were invited to perform at the Town Hall for the New Cumnock Burns Club centenary community concert. The children were very well received by the packed hall and were showered with wonderful compliments on their performances!
It was a wonderful afternoon and not only did the children display wonderful performance skills but their behaviour and enthusiasm made each of them a credit to the school!
