Family Discussion Time Again!
This week the topic is ‘moths’ and explains why they are just as important as bees.
Best Start Grant
Information from East Ayrshire Health & Social Care Partnership
From today (1st June) applications will be accepted for the Best Start Grant – School Age Payment, worth £250 to eligible families for children about to start school in Primary 1 to help with the costs of a child starting school. This money can be used for anything that families may need at this key stage in a child’s life.
You do not need to take up a place in school after the summer to get this payment but any parent who has deferred entry until August 2021 should also make the application NOW if their child’s birthday falls between 1 March 2015 and 29 February 2016. When to apply for School Age Payment depends on when your child was born, not when they start school so any parent who defers their child’s entry to school to next year may miss out if they don’t apply now. Applications will open on 1 June 2020 until 28 February 2021 for children who were born between 1 March 2015 and 29 February 2016.
To apply, the parent/guardian needs to call a Freephone number 0800 182 2222 and leave their details. They will then receive a call back to make the application.

Microsoft Teams
Here is another guide to accessing Microsoft TEAMS for parents and children. TEAMS is a fabulous way to allow children to keep in touch with their teacher is a safe and secure way. All classes have a TEAM and children can access using their GLOW email and password.
Mauchline Beavers, Cubs and Scouts
Some of Mauchline’s scout groups (Beavers, Cubs and Scouts) have made a video to say thank you to all of the key workers in their community.
They especially want to say thank you to all of the teachers for working so hard and adapting so quickly during this difficult situation.

PATHS – Ask the Coach
At Mauchline Primary we realise that the current situation can be challenging for everyone, both adults and children and we are eager to support you as best we can as we face these challenges together.
As part of our Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) our coach (Hazel) from Barnardo’s Scotland, who supports the implementation of the PATHS® programme in school will be taking questions relating to the Social and Emotional Health and Wellbeing of parents, children and family members.
If you or your child have any questions regarding challenges you are currently experiencing, perhaps dealing with difficult feelings or behaviours in your home or dealing with new challenges presented by staying at home, you can send Hazel your question anonymously via the forms below and she will respond.
As always, if you have a particular concern regarding your child that you want to discuss please contact us directly and we will be happy to talk over the phone or via email.
