Maths Trails

Maths trails are a fun and engaging way to use and learn maths skills outdoors.  They can be used to apply and enhance learning in different contexts and to make numeracy and maths learning relevant by linking it to real life, demonstrating maths in the world around us.  To create a Maths Trail choose a route you wish to walk and identify the opportunities for developing conversations about Numeracy and Maths, using Maths vocabulary, estimating and calculating.

For teachers, this means that the activities can be amended to meet different learner needs and can be used to focus on a variety of Experiences and Outcomes within the the MNU Curriculum.  Maths Trails are therefore suitable for learners working at Early Level and beyond.

Have a look at this video for more information on carrying out your own maths trail.

Below, we have shared a generic maths trail template which can be used and edited for any stage or school.  All resources here have been uploaded in Word Document format so that they can be edited and can be adapted to suit your context, setting, environment and level.
