Castle Douglas Primary School is a co-educational primary school serving the town of Castle Douglas and surrounding rural area stretching beyond the Old Bridge of Urr in the north, Bridge of Dee in the west, Milton of Buittle to the east and Little Knox to the south.
School transport is available for children from these areas providing they live over two miles (under eight years old) or three miles (over eight) from the school.
There are twelve classes ranging from Primary 1 to Primary 7, a nursery for 3 and 4 year olds and a Learning Centre to meet the needs of pupils with additional support needs.
The school was built in 2010 replacing an older building on the same site.
The current school roll is 365 pupils and there is also an eighty place nursery for 3 and 4 year olds. Close links are fostered with local playcare and childcare providers and Castle Douglas High School so that all children are ensured a smooth and happy transition at both admission and transfer stages.
The school is situated in Dumfries and Galloway (south-west Scotland) in the market town of Castle Douglas.
The town lies on the A75 Trunk road which runs between the Scottish border at Gretna in the east and Stranraer in the west.
