Prada-ful P4W!

P4W rounded off their recent Context for Learning on Italy by learning about Italian fashion designers and creating our own designs! Miss Wozniak also bought us some Italian food to taste!

We found out about some famous Italian designers including Prada, Gucci and Versace. We then worked in a group to create an item of clothing using recyclable materials and some special sparkly items!

Millie’s group designed a dress.
Team Sheep!

Once we presented our designs to our classmates, it was time to taste some Italian food! Miss Wozniak also brought in some of her favourite Italian foods from home including espresso coffee, amaretto biscuits, some different shapes of pasta and biscotti.

We tried lots of different foods. We had some ciabatta bread, breadsticks, two different types of salami, cheese (including mozzarella!) tomatoes and olives. Olives were not a popular choice!

P4W’s Italian feast!

Amber & Danielle loved tasting the different Italian cheeses.
Boyd LOVED salami. It was gone in a flash!!
Cole braved tasting the olives…. but wasn’t a fan!
Darren & Max enjoyed the Parma Ham!
Niamh C & Louisa enjoyed tasting new foods.
Millie liked the bread the best!
Miss Wozniak’s fancy Amaretti biscuits.

We loved learning all about Italy. Our favourite parts of this Context were learning some Italian words, learning about the Leaning Tower of Pisa and creating lots of fantastic artwork with Mr Gough and Miss Wozniak.

We can’t wait to find out what our new Context for Learning will be!

P7S Pumpkin Catapult Olympics!

This week our STEM challenge had a Halloween twist! Miss Stark set us the challenge to build our own catapults ready to take part in a Pumpkin Catapult Olympics! We had so much fun and things got a little competitive! Check out our creations and activities below.

  1. Go the distance

2. Hit the Target

3. Great Heights

4. Tower Topple

5. Score a Bucket

6. Hoop Shoot

We found that the ‘Score a bucket’ and ‘Hoop Shoot’ were the two most difficult challenges. We had to have a play off to find the winners for both!

Congratulations to all our Gold Medalists – Here they are:

Quidditch STEM

This week Miss Stark set P7S a STEM challenge to design and create a Quidditch broomstick with natural outdoor materials. She only gave us 5 elastic bands and 2 metres of string to help. Over the course of the week we planned, prepared and evaluated our task.

This morning we went to the woods at the Delph Pond to gather our outdoor materials. We worked in groups of 3 and had loads of fun collecting stuff like sticks and leaves.

We came back and had half an hour to assemble our brooms with our teams. Then when our time was up we presented our brooms to the class. Take a look at our design process and finished products below, we hope you like them! We are SO proud of them!

‘Blown Away’ with Autumn Poetry!

P4W have been working really hard this week, creating their own Autumn poems using our senses.

On Tuesday, we went for a walk around the school playground and worked with a small group to collect words that described things that we could see, hear, smell and touch. We also collected some items including different coloured leaves and pine cones which we decided could contribute to our display.

Tiana and Lewis used their sense of touch to help them collect words.
Jack and Darren found some fantastic coloured leaves to help them with their poems.
We worked in small groups and used our senses to collect words to help us with our plan.
We walked through the leaves that were piled up in the playground and listened carefully for the noise they made.

On Wednesday, we shared the words that we collected and discussed different Autumn poems that Miss Wozniak found. We also looked at the features of poetry and found that not all poems have to rhyme.

Here are some of our fantastic creations:

Leaves, leaves in the breeze,
They woosh and wiggle in the trees.
When Autumn blows, they move around,
Until they hear a crunching sound.
Woosh, all the leaves are gone,
Until next Autumn,
It feels so long.
By Sarah M

Leaves in the trees,
Falling by the breeze.
The leaves dance in the breeze,
As they fall to the ground.
It smells like chocolate and Halloween treats.
It feels like peaceful raindrops and Bonfire Night.
By Liam N

Autumn, Autumn, I smell you,
You smell like little leaves.
Autumn, Autumn, I hear you,
You sound like leaves swaying in the breeze.
Autumn, Autumn, I see you,
You look like leaves on the ground.
Autumn, Autumn, I taste you,
You taste like Belgian Buns.
Autumn, Autumn, I feel you,
You feel like crunching leaves.
By Niamh C

As an extra challenge, we also created some fantastic acrostic poems too:

Sorting Ceremony

As part of our Context for Learning – Harry Potter & the Philosopher’s Stone. P7S held a sorting ceremony to place pupils into one of the  4 Hogwarts house teams: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw.

In our houses the first task was to design a  shield that represented our house. We had to use our house colours and include two words used to describe the characters of our house in the Sorting Hat song.

Gryffindor
Slytherin
Ravenclaw
Hufflepuff

Please feel free to leave us a comment and let us know what you think of our designs!

This week’s website reporters!
This week’s website reporters!

In primary 1M we have been learning lots of things this week. In numeracy we have been learning  to count aloud up to 40 and learning about ordering numbers to 10. In literacy we have been learning how to read and spell different words like cat and dog. We are trying hard to log on the the netbooks by ourselves and we used paint to draw the Gruffalo! We liked PE with Mr Roberts, we liked the games that he plays with us! Have a look at some pictures!

Rugby 7s

Some of our Primary 7 pupils enjoyed an afternoon playing rugby at Alloa Rugby Club. All of the pupils played extremely well and displayed excellent sportsmanship. They were a credit to our school! Well done to all involved!

                                                         Team 1
                                                          Team 2

The children were not put off by the muddy pitches and luckily the sun was shining for us all afternoon. Safe to say there will be lots of baths tonight!
