Welcome to Week 2 of our Virtual Trip Experience, I hope you had a great time at Edinburgh Zoo last week, this week we are going to visit a different tourist attraction around Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire every day!
The sway below shows Monday and Tuesdays visits, on Wednesday I will post a new set of visits for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday to get your hands on.
Boys and Girls today you will be learning about some famous artists, a bit of their history, where they lived and their most famous pieces of art. To do that, you will see the information on the sways and you will locate every important place in relation to them on Google Earth.
You will be looking at four artists, two from Spain and two from France. They all did amazing pieces of art, some of them you can find them in museums and others you can see from high up in the sky!
Spicy: Look up for the places given in the Sways, write in your journal about the one you thought was most interesting.
Hot: Choose your favourite artist and do some research about him so you can tell us more.
Let’s begin.
Spain
-Antoni Gaudí
-Pablo Picasso
France
-Claude Monet
-Gustave Eiffel
First, a reminder of how to use Google Earth in this sway.
Antoni was born in Reus, Spain. He was a Catalan Modernism architect, his style made his art so famous until today. Most of his art is located in Barcelona, Spain.
Hold Still, a portrait of our nation in 2020, is an ambitious community project to create a unique photographic portrait which captures the spirit, mood, hopes, fears and feelings of the nation as we continue to deal with isolation and uneasy times.
The Duchess and the National Portrait Gallery invite you to submit your own photographic portrait, taken during these extraordinary times, which responds to one of the following themes:
We would really love for you all to give this a go whether you decide to submit it or not you can always share this with your teacher.
Photography Support PowerPoint.
I’ve teamed up with a friend of mine who is a photographer in her spare time, she has very kindly created a powerpoint with some helpful tips to help support and develop your photography skills.
SEW – we thought you might like to take part in a Sewing Bee!
This is when a group of people get together to sew and make. They share ideas, help , encourage and have a laugh!
🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝
HUGE THANKS TO MRS STILL AND MRS WEBSTER FOR BEING SUCH BUSY SEWING BEES!!
🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝
On BBC 1 there is a programme called ‘The Sewing Bee’ – there are 3 parts
The Pattern Challenge
The Makeover Challenge
The Made to Measure Challenge – let’s rethink this challenge!
The Methlick School Eco Sewing Bee – Pattern Challenge
To follow the pattern to succeed
The Methlick School Eco Sewing Bee – Makeover Challenge
To ‘makeover’ an old piece of clothing and turn it into a bee or any pollinator of your choice!
Each week on the television programme contestants are given an everyday item to makeover into a new item in a very short amount of time. Last week each contestant had a sleeping bag and they had to make a children’s costume. The results were amazing!
The Methlick School Eco Sewing Bee Cardboard Challenge
No fabric then why not try this cardboard sewing challenge instead!
I hope you enjoy taking part in one of these challenges or inventing your own!

My daughter was bored on Saturday. It was snowing! She was grumbling! Eventually she agreed to have a go at making a bee and she surprised herself! She made her own pattern and sewed from lunchtime until late evening until she finished! Sewing is a very important skill for her future career as she is studying to become a vet so this was good practise as well.
Making, sewing, building, tinkering away at a project in your imagination can be very absorbing. You can forget about everything around you for a while!
As part of Methlick Eco Fortnight I was challenged to make one meat free meal. I made the recipe shown below. The black beans were a delicious substitution for the chicken I would usually use. Inspired by the grid, I then made the recipe into a little card to print off and add to my recipe book.
Do you have a recipe book where you keep all of your favourite recipes? Maybe you could share some of your favourite recipes with your teacher this week. Let us know if you make a meat free meal this week and add your recipe to your Seesaw journal if you can.
During this time we are all at home, it gives us a chance to spend time inside doing things we regularly don’t often give enough time to. Feeling inspired by Mr.Reid’s Music Journey I wanted to give myself the challenge too to learn something new. Like Mr.Reid I want to learn something that I can use in the future. Thinking about my interests I’ve decided to combine a few ideas together into one big project.
I’m going to create a web series. Throughout I’m going to learn about filming, editing, special effects, script writing and I want you to join and help me along the way.
I have taken home a variety of supplies from school to enable me to bring our wild and wacky stories to life, yes I did say OUR! It wont just be me who will be doing the work. Together we will work together and learn about creative writing, characterisation, graphic design and many more.
So Lets find out about the show…
A synopsis:
Imagine the Magic Key from Biff, Chip and Kipper, mixed with Jumanji, add a dash of bedtime stories, all told through story cubes and you will have my idea of the Web Show.
A boy receives a strange package in the mail, it has an oddly written letter and a bag full of cubes. The cubes all have a variety of different symbols on them, they are Story Cubes. When he rolls the cubes, the symbols that are on top will become the story that he is sucked into (just like the magic key stories). The cubes will lead him on an eventful adventure until he returns home. Each adventure will be different as you never know how the cubes will roll.
6 cubes will be rolled each time, an episode will cover the first three cubes. It will be your task to look at the remaining cubes and write the second half of the story. It will be up to me to choose one or combine a few ideas and film the next episode. These stories can be as imaginative as possible as it will be up to me to figure out how to bring the story to life learning new digital skills along the way while staying at home.
The Web-Show will be called ‘CUBES’
Your first task for over the Easter Holidays is to design for me the logo of the show, something that I will use in the title sequence.
Your Success Criteria
It must include the name ‘Cubes’
It must relate to the synopsis you have been given
It must be colourful
It must be readable and viewed easily at a glance
If you can think of a tagline for the show, that would also be great to add to your design. Or you can try to create an animation for the title sequence on Scratch Jr.
Here is a picture of the cubes that will be found in the package.
Your logo designs can be created in any art medium you want. Please email me your designs on my glow to gw18mutchconnor. I look forward to viewing your designs after the holidays.
You will have seen many people commenting in posts and speaking about Sway.
A few of the classes were shown Sway on final few days of school. That seems quite a long time ago now and it was a lot to remember. I have tried to make my first video tutorial to explain again. As teachers we are also learning new things and it’s very exciting.
Below you will find a Sway which takes you through all the steps in how to access Sway, Create your Sway and Share your Sway. It is split into four parts so that you can focus on the specific instruction you need support with.
There is lots of information but once you start to play around with the program it does become quite easy to follow.
Please DO NOT comment your Sway links on a blog post. The blog is public for everyone to get access to. Your sways should only be able to be accessed and edited by your teachers and yourself. If you make a new sway and want to share it with your teachers, please either send the link in an email or on seesaw.
You can also follow this link to Microsoft’s Youtube which offers multiple videos on Sway.

I hope this helps, please do not hesitate to comment any questions.
