End of Year Reflection

Methlick End of Year Reflection Colour
(PDF link)

This week we won’t be having a Numeracy/Literacy and HWB grid.  Instead, as the school year draws to a close, take some time to reflect upon all that you have experienced over the course of the year.  We would love to hear about the skills you’ve gained, things you’ve felt proud of and memories you’ve shared. Fill in the boxes and send it to your teacher over on Seesaw. (The PDF Links are much more printer friendly)

Here’s a black and white version if you don’t have a colour printer:

Tuck Shop – Spicy – Numeracy – Money

I made a tuck shop at home.  I picked out items to sell and created my own price list.

I then opened the shop up to customers (my family).  They were to pick one item and then pay using a £1 coin.  I then had to work out how much change they would get back.

I used the ’empty number line’ method to work out their change.  After doing this a few times I became more confident and could then use this method in my own head.

I then extended my shop, adding more items and creating a new price list.

During this game the customer was allowed to pick a few items.  I then had to add them up to see how much the total cost would be.  To do this I separated the numbers into tens and units to make the addition part easier to visualise.  Again, this process became easier in my head after practising on paper first.

There are so many strategies we can use to add and subtract.  See how many you can use for this task.  You might have a favourite method.  Let your teacher know it! 😊

Five Sense Poem

I found this exercise very relaxing.  My mind was busy thinking about all the different senses and the world around us, so it made it hard to think about anything else in that moment.  This would also be a great strategy to use if you are feeling nervous or tense.  Stop, take a few deep breaths and start to list the things you can see, taste, smell, feel and hear.

I have had some great responses from pupils already.  Some excellent drawings, photographs and paintings displaying the ideas put forward in their poems.

HWB – Food Technology – Spicy

As part of Methlick Eco Fortnight I was challenged to make one meat free meal. I made the recipe shown below.  The black beans were a delicious substitution for the chicken I would usually use.  Inspired by the grid, I then made the recipe into a little card to print off and add to my recipe book.

Do you have a recipe book where you keep all of your favourite recipes? Maybe you could share some of your favourite recipes with your teacher this week.  Let us know if you make a meat free meal this week and add your recipe to your Seesaw journal if you can.

Spicy – Literacy – Writing no.3

I selected ‘The Six-Legged Spider’ as my focus.  It contained a conflict between the main character, the spider, and a long list of employers.

This was the front cover I redesigned.  This was my second attempt.  On my first try I included some of the challenges she faced in the story, but then I thought it might give to much of the plot away, so I had another go.

I looked at some other blurbs before writing mine. I came across some that didn’t give too much away, but made you want to look inside to find out more.  I tried to keep mine similar to this, as well as short and sweet!

I can’t wait to see what you come up with Spicy writers! You can show yours to your teachers over on your Sway Journals or on Seesaw. 📝
