First Aid with Mrs Webster- Health and Wellbeing

Hello Everyone, Happy Thursday.

We would love to hear if any of you have been practising your FIrst Aid skills from looking at Mr Reid’s post last week or if you have doneΒ  this independently.

I thought , who better to tell us about First Aid than one of our PSA’s; Mrs Webster.

Please have a look at her poster information below that she has created to help you remember about first aid and their role in the playground.

Mild Literacy and HWB – Sky journal

I hope you have enjoyed being outdoors and observing the sky.

Did you SEE, THINK and WONDER?

I was left wondering what some of the clouds shapes were called.

Some people choose to observe the sky as a job, they are called Meteorologists.

Mrs Still ,as well as being one of our wonderful PSAs, is a Meteorologist Observer.

She has kindly written thisΒ  guide to the clouds for us, isn’t that fantastic!

I have had a go at writing a sky journal.

I’m not finished, now that I have Mrs Still’s book I am going to have a go at writing about different cloud formations, I will share on Friday.

Take a blanket and lie down and look at the sky, I find it very calming! ENJOY!

Eco Fortnight Update and BBC Bitesize Lessons

A huge thanks to everyone for sending all their Eco work and ideas in. Each class received lots of lovely Eco posters and items of work.

Here is a greatΒ  example of a piece of work that was shared.

We also had a number of photos sent in for tracking animals during your daily walks.

I have added some here –

We have also been very lucky to have been sent some photos from our Schoolhouse neighbours, can you guess what bird has made a nest in our greenhouse?

Our reporter tells me there are 6 hungry mouths waiting to be fed.

BBC Bitesize Daily Lessons

If you have some time this week or next and want to learn more about the planet around us I have looked up the BBC Bitesize lessons to share some with you.

Schedule – BBC bitesize

This week the Geography lessons are –

P1/2/3 Oceania

P4/5 Mountains

P6/7 Rainforests

Next week –

P1/2/3 South America

P4/5 Weather/Climate

P6/7 Fossil Fuels

If you watch them leave a comment to let everyone know if they were interesting or not. So far the lessons have been really interesting and some have guest presenters.Β  You can find them on catch up once aired so don’t feel you have to stick to the timings.

Mild HWB – The Methlick School Eco Sewing Bee

SEW –Β  we thought you might like to take part in a Sewing Bee!

This is when a group of people get together to sew and make. They share ideas, help , encourage and have a laugh!

🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝

HUGE THANKS TO MRS STILL AND MRS WEBSTER FOR BEING SUCH BUSY SEWING BEES!!

🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝

On BBC 1 there is a programme called ‘The Sewing Bee’ – there are 3 parts

  • The Pattern Challenge

  • The Makeover Challenge

  • The Made to Measure Challenge – let’s rethink this challenge!

The Methlick School Eco Sewing Bee – Pattern Challenge

To follow the pattern to succeed

The Methlick School Eco Sewing Bee –Β  Makeover Challenge

To ‘makeover’ an old piece of clothing and turn it into a bee or any pollinator of your choice!

Each week on the television programme contestants are given an everyday item to makeover into a new item in a very short amount of time. Last week each contestant had a sleeping bag and they had to make a children’s costume. The results were amazing!

The Methlick School Eco Sewing Bee Cardboard Challenge

No fabric then why not try this cardboard sewing challenge instead!

I hope you enjoy taking part in one of these challenges or inventing your own!

🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝

My daughter was bored on Saturday. It was snowing! She was grumbling! Eventually she agreed to have a go at making a bee and she surprised herself! She made her own pattern and sewed from lunchtime until late evening until she finished! Sewing is a very important skill for her future career as she is studying to become a vet so this was good practise as well.

Making, sewing, building, tinkering away at a project in your imagination can be very absorbing. You can forget about everything around you for a while!

Mild Numeracy – Measurement – Spelling Bee Hat

P1 and P2 have been practising words that are spelt with the long vowel sound ‘ee’.

When you are taking part in the ‘Methlick Spelling Bee’ you might like to make a hat to wear.

This is a great way to practise your measuring skills using a different measuring tool – the measuring tape.

🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝

A HUGE THANK YOU to Mrs Black for sharing a hat making idea with us. If you love origami or would like to try the skill of paper folding watch Mrs Black’s sway to learn more!
