Anagrams #3 – Scottish Cities, Towns and Villages

In keeping with our ‘Scotland’ theme, here are some more anagrams for you to  unscramble.

This time, the answers are all names of cities, towns and villages around Scotland.  The majority are located in the North-East, though there are a couple from farther away.

Let me know how you get on!

Camouflage – Science

Good Morning Boys and Girls!

I have been looking at all your artwork from last week and this week and it looks fantastic! After seen so many activities related to nature, it made me think of something super fun that you could try at home. It is going to be a big challenge because you will need to be very careful and detailed. Also, it is going to be such a fun challenge, I am already smiling thinking of all the great ideas you might have.

Let’s Begin!

What do you think these 3 animals have in common?

Leaf Tailed Gecko

Mountain Hare

Cameleon

Well done! All of them use their skin to protect themselves from predators, this is called Camouflage. The Mountain Hare changes its fur to white for winter season and brown for the other seasons.

Now, quick challenge, click below and see how fast you can spot the camouflaged animals.

BBC – Earth: How quickly can you spot these camouflaged animals?

Camouflage

Many animals try to hide or blend in with the background to protect themselves from predators, even big animals do it. Even though, some animals can not change the colour of their skin they use other strategies  and high skills to hide. Click on the following video to learn more.

Feel-Good Friday – Fun with Fruit and Veg

For the final day of our Health Fortnight, I thought we could have a bit of fun.  You know how adults always tell you, “Don’t play with your food”?  Well, now’s your chance!

Today’s Feel-Good activity combines creativity with imagination AND healthy food.  Have you guessed what it is yet?

Your challenge is to make a fabulous creature using only fruit and vegetables.

Have a look!

Do remember to ask for an adult’s permission before taking any food to do this activity,  and make sure that you are being supervised if you are using any sharp kitchen utensils.

If you would like to email me photos, I can make a Sway to show everyone what you have created.  Have fun!

Anagrams – Fruits and Vegetables

Good morning, everyone.

As it’s the last week of our Health Fortnight, I thought I would choose something healthy for my Literacy challenge.  All the answers to today’s anagrams are names of fruits and vegetables.

If you haven’t tried working out an anagram before – it’s easy!  Just unscramble the letters in each question to form the name of a fruit or vegetable.  I find the easiest way to do this is to write down all the letters in random order on a piece of paper.  You can also cut them up and rearrange them that way, moving them around until you work it out.

Click on the Sway to take part.  Good luck!

Mr Reid’s Music Journey – Term 4

Hello all!

Music can have such a positive impact on our mental health. Today, I challenge you to find a piece of instrumental music.

First of all, what does it means for a piece of music to be ‘instrumental’? Let us know in the comments if you find out!

Second, how does your piece of instrumental music make you feel?

In the Sway below, you will find a video of me playing my guitar to one of my favourite pieces of instrumental music – ‘Ocean’ by John Butler.  I am playing my 12-string guitar and I’m a bit rusty, but this is a song that always makes me happy and relaxed when I play it.

Mr Reid’s Music Journey – Term 4

Hello all!

Music can have such a positive impact on our mental health. Today, I challenge you to think about your favourite song or piece of music and let us know in the comments. Tell us how the song makes you feel when you are listening to it. Perhaps we could even make a playlist of all our favourite songs – Methlick’s Music!

In the Sway below, you will find a video of me playing my guitar to one of my favourite songs – ‘Let it  Be’ by the Beatles. For me, this song is full of positivity and joy – it reminds me to be thankful for everything that I have.

Methlick’s Masterchefs

A huge ‘THANK YOU’ to everyone who sent in photographs of the wonderful food you’ve been making for my Feel-Good Friday challenge.

You’ve really inspired me to challenge myself and make some new things.   At the weekend I made butteries for the first time.  They weren’t easy, but I got there in the end!

Methlick’s Big Night In – Community Challenge – Poster Design

Good morning everyone!

If you have watched Mrs Fraser’s assembly this morning, then you will be aware of the upcoming event – Methlick’s Big Night In!

On the 22nd of May, the staff at Methlick School will be putting on a quiz night for everyone in the community to participate in – all from the comfort of your own home. It will be filmed as a video and accessed through the ‘Methlick Primary’ YouTube channel. We will post up links to the video on both the blog and SeeSaw.

To publicise the event, we need your help! Mrs Fraser has created a poster but we need the talented pupils of Methlick School to design a new and improved version.

All the information for the event can be found on Mrs Fraser’s poster. We would be thrilled if you could help us and design your own.

Here are some helpful tips:

  • Include all the information
  • Make sure it is neatly presented
  • Use an eye-catching design and layout
  • Lots of bold and bright colours
  • Include pictures or drawings that are related to a quiz night

If you create a poster, please email a picture of it to your class teacher. This will help us to publicise the event so that everyone in the Methlick community knows about it! Please can all posters be completed by Friday (15th).

Thank you for your help and remember to set your calendars for May 22nd – Methlick’s Big Night In!

FIND THE MISSING LINKS

As tomorrow is a holiday, we won’t have another Feel-Good Friday activity until next week.  However, I thought I’d set you a Literacy challenge to keep you going over the long weekend.

Today’s challenge is all about finding one word which links with each of three other words.

Click on the Sway below to access the quiz and to find out what to do.

It’s a tricky one, so good luck!

Have a lovely weekend.  🙂
