Primary 4a and 4b

21 April 2016

This term we shall be learning about the Rainforest. We will be studying its eco-system, the layers of the rainforest and how to classify animals. The focus of our Big Writing sessions will be on imaginative writing.

5 February 2016
We have concentrated on the meaning of BOLT (Building Our Learning Together) and how our class displays BOLT in the way we work.
We will continue by creating our own growth mindset acronym.

In maths, we have been adding and taking away 9 and 11 and using these rules to then add and take away 19, 29….21, 31
We have been looking at links between multiplication and division; know 1 fact, know 4 facts.
Taking on the primary 1’s in our maths challenge (they keep beating us!)

In language we have been using our knowledge of reference books to create our own Fact File all about Japan.  We have been taking notes and using our notes to write interesting facts about Japan.  We have had a Karate taster session and we are learning to count to 10 in Japanese.

We have also been creating an animation using PowerPoint and learning about Earthquakes and Earthquake drills – even deciding what would be in our Earthquake Survival Kit.

14 January 2016
We will be learning all about Japan this term. We will be using our atlas skills to locate various countries around the globe including looking in more detail at Japan. Our reading books will all be non-fiction based and we will be using our knowledge of non-fiction books to create our own individual Japanese Fact Files. When we research Japan we are hoping to discover more about the culture, sports, landscape, history, art, school life and food of the country.

In the Primary 4/5 Learning Hub we will continue to develop our skills for learning and build our independence by using BOLT – “Building Our Learning Together”
