Burnside Sporting Round Up
Netball
The netball team had the opportunity to play at Carlogie Primary School for their latest tournament. The girls have been coming to netball practice every week and have continued to show GRIT. The girls were much more confident at the match and this showed in their performance. They were delighted, as was Miss Fairweather, when they played well together and won some points. The team are continuing to develop and practise their skills and some primary 6 girls have also started to come along which will help the team learn together. We are looking forward to the next tournament already.
Well done girls, go Burnside Netball Team!
Basketball
Burnside basketball team took part in the Angus Finals on Wednesday 23rd March. It was the first outing for the new school sports strips and we certainly looked smart! The team played very well to come 6th overall – excellent job!
Football
Our school football team competed recently in the Carnoustie cluster inter-schools football tournament. The Burnside team performed extremely well, showing GRIT and determination in all of their matches against some tough opposition. Burnside finished 2nd on the day behind a consistent Grange team. The boys were a credit to the school and showed excellent sportsmanship throughout. We are now training hard in preparation for our next challenge in May.
Cross Country
Burnside’s Cross Country team competed in the Angus Primary Schools Cross Country Championship 2016 with all runners representing the school well. The Primary 7 boys team came in third place in the team event and have been invited to attend the National Schools Cross Country event in April 2016.
Rugby Festival – Primary 4a
Pupils from Burnside Primary 4a played in their first rugby festival at Carlogie Primary School this month. A healthy round robin competition filled the afternoon. Congratulations to Woodlands Primary School who won the trophy. A future festival is being planned for next term.
Athletics Squad 2015/16
Burnside Athletics Team have had a very successful Winter Season in the Fun in Athletics competitions. In November we took part in the Carnoustie Cluster heat at the Beach Hall where we cam first! We then attended the Angus Final in Forfar and again performed exceptionally well earning us joint first place with Whitehills Primary School. The Regional Finals followed in February where we managed to finish 6th. The team are all to be congratulated on their hard work and commitment, they worked extremely well as a team and certainly put our school aims into practice. Well done all on a fantastic effort.
