These two events were held on the 17th of June. At 5:30 the P7 class headed to Seasalt for their dinner, all of the P7s had pizza. At this dinner, the whole P7 group attended as well as Mrs. Clark, Mrs. McFarlane and Mrs. Leask. Everyone had a wonderful time and ate lots of pizza! When we left, we all expected to have to walk. That’s when a luxurious jeep pulled up to Seasalt and surprised us. Everyone was shocked as nobody expected it to be our ride back to the school. As we got in we were shocked by how fancy it was, in the moment we all felt like royalty. Once we arrived at the school everyone was waiting for us at the door, this is where the school disco was held. When we arrived some of the P7s were already at the disco, everyone was having so much fun! The school gave everyone free drinks and crisps, and also hosted fun games for P1-P7 pupils could play! Mrs. Bonar was taking amazing photos in the corner with silly props, every pupil was able to take part and take class photos. This was a really fun night for all the students and especially for the P7s!
Robotics and Micro:bits With P1/2
For our Robotics topic we partnered up with p1/2. We showed them how to program robots like Spheros and Dash and Dot and how to program micro:bits to count how many things were out in the playground. We had to code it all ourselves and de-bug it if it was wrong. Then we all decided to make our own robots. We had planning sheets and had to decide what we were going to make our robot do- they had to solve a world problem linked to the Sustainable Development Goals. Then we had to code the Micro:bits and then make the robots. We junk modelled them and then papermached. We will present our robots at the end of the week. For example we have a robot that can detect when the soil gets too dry and plants need watering.
This afternoon we used our plans from last week to code and build our own robots designed to solve various sustainable development goals. @DigitalXtraFund @microbit_edu @STEMedscot pic.twitter.com/3jo6we9YaH

National Teaching Award for Making a Difference
At our school, Port Ellen Primary School. We received the National Teaching Award for Making a Difference, Primary School of the Year. The teaching award is a once-a-year award that is given out to special schools across the UK. Our school was very lucky to be given the award considering that there was 4 school who also received the silver awards in the UK, 2 in Scotland and 2 in England. Iona says, ” This is a great opportunity for our school, I am very lucky to be in such a great school” Another opinion gave by the editors are by Chloe, she says, ” We are one of the many schools who could have been picked out of all the schools that entered. We are extremely lucky to be given this golden award.” From another student, Brody, ” I was speechless.” Our school is very active with the community and brings Joy to all the students. Making a difference is important to the community as our Island is special in its own way.

MY ENDEAVOR PROJECT
My endeavor is dog grooming and I love doing it because I get to be near other dogs. I have groomed lots of dogs here is a few of there names Patch, Sandy, Pippa, Baloo and Imogen. Shona Isla has groomed lots of dogs. Some times I help tidy up the dogs hair when we are done. The only dog that I have groomed is my dog called Patch because my mum and dad said that I could trim her. I have to have the owners permission before I can trim the dog.
BEACH CLEAN
The school went for a beach clean on 30th April at our local beach the Co-op beach. The most plastic the school found was plastic bags, but we also found crisp packets, a tire, shoes and glass. Re-jig came along to help us clear the beach. After when we had a lovely clean beach we held a competition to do some sand sculptures. I built a fairy kingdom. I think it is important to keep our beaches clean because it stops animals dying.

The United Nations Convention On The Rights Of The Child
In 1989 a really important decision was made around the world. World leaders came together in the United Nations and made an important promise to the world’s children. They made a promise to every child to protect and fulfil their rights, by adopting an international legal framework – the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Children are human beings and individuals with their own rights. The Convention says childhood is separate from adulthood, and lasts until 18; it is a special, protected time, in which children must be allowed to grow, learn, play, develop and flourish with dignity. The Convention went on to become the most widely ratified human rights treaty in history and has helped transform children’s lives.
Here are some of the Rights
Article 9: Separation from parents
Children must not be separated from their parents.
Article 3: Best interests of the child
The best interests of the child must be a top priority.
Article 31: Leisure, play and culture
Every child has the right to relax, play and take part in a wide range of cultural and artistic activities.
I think that all children should have all of these rights.
