Primary 7 at John Logie Baird Primary School made the long trip through to Edinburgh recently to visit the Scottish Parliament. After a visit to the Education Centre where we learned about the history of the parliament in Scotland and where asked to use our brains, we went on a tour of the building. We were lucky enough to be allowed into the Debating Chamber and learned many interesting facts about that room such as where the Presiding Officer sits and just how busy the reporters for the parliament are! John Logie Baird visits their Art Exhibition at Victoria Halls
On only the second day back to school John Logie Baird Primary 2 – 7 had an exciting walk to see their artwork displayed in the Victoria Halls. The local Art Group incorporated their work into their annual art exhibition, the first time any Primary has worked with the group to put on such a professional display. Many comments were written in our Celebration of Young Art book complimenting the creativity and quality of work. Learning journeys written by the children were available to view detailing the challenges and successes of producing their pieces of art. Primary Schools Maths Challenge
JLB achieve Silver & Bronze awards at Primary Schools Maths Challenge.
On Friday 14th June, Sasha Barclay, P7 at John Logie Baird Primary, went to Glasgow University to be presented with a Silver Certificate for the Primary Schools Maths Challenge.
Mia Blakey, Courtney Sutherland, Stephanie McCully, Nadiyah Hassan, Alex Guy and Olivia Blenkinsop all recieved a bronze certificate for their hard work and high scores.
Celebration of Art Exhibition at John Logie Baird
Last week we held Our Celebration of Art exhibition in school. Since late November we have been working closely with our Local Art Group to provide quality learning experiences for our children through the medium of art.
Teachers planned a series of lessons that built in problem solving, creativity, discovery, challenge and in some cases maths!

John Logie Baird Primary Six Assembly
Primary six shared their recent learning about the Titanic with the school and their parents during their Titanic assembly.
They enjoyed sharing the information that they had gathered through personal and class research as well as dressing up as the different passengers who had boarded the Titanic on that fateful journey.
Christian Aid Football Tournament
On Monday 13th May the annual Christian Aid football tournament took place at Hermitage Academy. Schools from Helensburgh and the local area took place in, what was to be, a very wet football tournament. The Hermitage football team were competing for the first time since the National Finals in which they managed to come 3rd in the whole of Scotland. Their first game was against Cardross which Hermitage won 3-1. They followed this with another two impressive results against Lomond and JLB winning 5-0 and 7-0.

Tartan Tearooms at John Logie Baird Primary
Primary 1 and Primary 2/1 turned their classrooms into Tartan Tearooms as part of JLB’s Burns Day celebrations. This enterprise involved the children writing a list of everything they would need to run a tearoom in their classes, making posters to advertise the event and making tickets to sell to everyone in the school. John Logie Baird Primary 7 Scottish Parliament visit
Primay 7 at JLB Primary recently visited the Scottish Parliament as part of their Social Studies work this term. After a very informative talk about the role of the Scottish Parliament and its history, they were given a tour of the building. They were allowed to go into the Debating Chamber to see where everyone sits when they have something to discuss. The children were allowed to look at the Mace presented to the Parliament on its opening by the Queen and see the words engraved upon it “There shall be a Scottish Parliament”. JLB’s Musical Medley
Parents and friends of John Logie Baird Primary were wonderfully entertained by the children of the school during their Christmas performance of ‘JLB’s Musical Medley’.
They were taken to different locations through songs such as ‘How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria’, ‘ Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’, ‘Under The Sea’ & ‘I’m The King of The Swingers’.
The children learned a lot during the creation of the concert about performing to an audience, prop making, costume design and creative dance.
John Logie Baird Primary 50’s and 60’s assembly
Primary Four pupils at John Logie Baird Primary School recently enjoyed learning about many aspects of the “50’s and 60’s”. They were very keen to share their learning with the rest of the school and their parents so they decided to hold an assembly which would take their audience on an alphabetical journey through the 50’s and 60’s. The children worked very hard to create a script and many exciting props for their assembly which featured many special “guests” such as Elvis Presley, John Lennon, Neil Armstrong, President JFK and Mary Quant to name a few. John Logie Baird Pre-5 Responsible Citizens.
Recently the children at JLB Pre-5 Nursery have been learning about caring for others. They are becoming Responsible Citizens by planting Daffodil bulbs to sell and raise money for Marie Curie.
Marie Curie is a charity dedicated to the care of people with terminal illnesses.
This is also being reinforced through the PATHS Initiative where the children are encouraged to be thoughtful and kind. We have a beautiful tree in our foyer full of compliments shared in the nursery. Continue reading John Logie Baird Pre-5 Responsible Citizens.
French Cafe
Primary 6 at John Logie Baird Primary School enjoyed sharing their learning with parents and guests at their recent French Cafe. The Children all wore blue, white and red for the event and each had a special role to play whether it was manager, waiter or chef. The guests were treated to a menu of croissants, baguettes, petit pain aux chocolat and a selection of cakes and drinks. Both children and guests had to speak only in French. John Logie Baird Primary visit to Ardardan
Primary 1 and Primary 2/1 at John Logie Baird enjoyed a visit to Ardardan Garden Centre where they enthusiastically applied their mathematical and literacy skills in a real situation. They enjoyed exploring the plants and bulbs and learning about the range of farm produce. The Garden Centre staff were kept on their toes answering questions the children had prepared for them. The visit ended with an opportunity for each child to buy a suitable item in the farm shop. A big thank you is extended to all those at Ardardan who helped to make the visit so worthwhile.
John Logie Baird Primary Supermarket Topic
Primary 3/2 at John Logie Baird Primary have been very busy learning about the Supermarket. They performed very well in front of the whole school and parents at assembly. The children dressed up and took on roles of various jobs within a Supermarket. They all described who they were and what their job entailed. Well done P3/2!! Thanks also go to Tesco for supplying the school with uniforms and props.
