P5, P6 and P7 pupils of Dalintober PS were very lucky to have worked with Mark McSporran, CAST on Samba Drumming skills this session. They showed off their new talents in an outdoor performance for fellow pupils, staff and parents – and the sun even shone, adding to the samba feel! Many thanks to Mark for sharing his expertise.

Allan’s Road Safety Magic Show
Pupils from Argyll and Bute’s Cardross Primary School had a ‘magical’ start to their week when they had a visit from Allan’s Road Safety Magic Show.
The innovative show uses magic tricks to highlight key road safety themes including safe places to cross, the importance of wearing bright clothing and keeping away from parked cars.
‘World of Work’ Week at Dalintober PS and ELCC
Pupils at Dalintober & ELCC embarked on a journey of discovery through the world of work.
The week involved a range of visits to places of work in the local area and the school also welcomed a wide variety of visitors through its doors to work with classes.
ELCC had a visit from our School Crossing Patroller and the children loved taking turns to hold the lollipop.

Sport Relief’ Fundraising at Dalintober PS and ELCC
Pupils of Dalintober PS and ELCC held a number of fundraising events for ‘Sport Relief’, including bootcamps, a zumbathon and fitness challenges. The pupils raised a fantastic £1619.18 for the charity and would like to thank members of the school community for their kind and generous donations and sponsors.

‘Tasty Tuck Team’ Hit Dalintober PS
This month, the ‘Tasty Tuck Team’, aka Dalintober Primary’s Pupil Council members, launched their annual initiative to encourage pupils to bring in healthy snacks for playtimes. They sold some tasty morsels – fruit, pitta breads and crackers – as suggestions and these ‘tasters’ went down a treat with their fellow pupils. Following the current project’s run; they hope that parents and pupils will continue to promote the healthy eating message. The ‘Tasty Tuck Team’ would like to thank Miss Flaws, Miss McCallum, Mr Strang and the staff of Tesco Campbeltown for their help.
Dalintober Primary & Campbeltown Grammar Schools’ Link ‘Homework Club’
Dalintober Primary School invited S5 and S6 pupils from Campbeltown Grammar School to run a pilot Homework Club for interested P3 and P4 pupils and was overwhelmed with the response. A total of 18 tutors signed up to coach the 20 youngsters attending the club on Monday afternoons, where they assist the pupils in completing some of their homework tasks and activities before they take them home to discuss with parents.
Swimming and Badminton Success at Dalintober PS
Dalintober PS has been celebrating recent sporting achievements this week. Five pupils travelled to Glasgow to represent the school in the National Schools’ Swimming Championship. Euan finished 22nd overall in the 50m Freestyle with a PB. Astrid, Logan, Sophie and Claudia qualified a very impressive 3rd in their heat, and 13th overall in the 4x50m Freestyle Relay – the youngest team in the finals – also with a PB.

Sharing Practice’ with Parents at Dalintober PS
Dalintober PS held a very well-attended ‘Sharing Practice’ event for parents last week. Parents were given the opportunity to look at and interact with resources and materials being used in classes, participate in teacher-led activities and gain an understanding of newer teaching methods such as Reading Challenges, ‘Big Writing’ and Reciprocal Teaching.

‘Fit Fridays’ at Dalintober ELCC
Dalintober ELCC have recently been going out and about in their local community, participating in physical games and Active Learning opportunities during their Healthy, Happy Me topic. They have been taking part in sensory walks, wet welly walks, discovery days and lots more fun and exciting activities whatever the weather!

Scottish Book Week at Dalintober PS and ELCC
Pupils in Dalintober PS and ELCC recognised and celebrated Scottish Book Week through a whole-school project which culminated in a ‘Sharing Our Learning’ assembly. Activities included reading and voting on the finalised books for the book awards, ‘Dress as your favourite book character’, reading and creating Scots’ texts and researching the history of Scots’ language and the meanings of key words and phrases.

Dalintober PS and ELCC Fundraise for Children In Need
Dalintober PS and ELCC raised funds for BBC’s ‘Children In Need’ annual appeal last Friday. A non-uniform day was held – with an array of outfits and costumes on show! Various smaller fundraisers were led by pupils throughout the day including a discothon, cake stall, face painting and much more. A fabulous £430.03 was raised for the charity.

A Busy Week for Dalintober PS
Last week was a very busy one for Dalintober PS. We held six Hallowe’en parties across all stages, including ELCC. P5, P6 and P7 visited the excellent, interactive ‘Bibleworld’ bus at Campbeltown Grammar School, the West Midlands Theatre Company performed ‘The Apprentice Sorcerer’ to a captivated whole school audience and P4, P5 and P6 thoroughly enjoyed a visit from storyteller and author Michael Kerins. We even managed to squeeze in a couple of Parents’ Evenings!

Gavin Lawson, Store Manager of Tesco Campbeltown, kindly donated 300 apples for Dalintober Primary School and ELCC’s upcoming Hallowe’en parties. We are extremely grateful for their generosity and look forward to working with the store and team in future school and community projects.
Dalintober PS Elects Pupil Council 2015-16
This year’s elected Pupil Council members held their first meeting of the new school year on Friday. Pupils discussed ideas for promoting healthy eating and decided this would be the first venture they would like to undertake and promote – watch this space…!
Thank you to our new Pupil Council members for committing themselves to their roles with such enthusiasm.
Dalintober PS Marks ‘School Food Day’
Pupils, staff and Catering Staff decided to mark ‘School Food Day’, celebrating ‘Scotland’s Year of Food’ by holding an ‘Eat What You Grow’ lunch. Fruit and vegetables, grown on the school allotment, was harvested by members of the school’s Eco-Group and brought fresh from the site to the kitchen. The Catering Staff used the produce to make potato soup, potato salad, broad bean frittata and apple crumble – a sumptuous feast that was enjoyed by all!
Transition Time at Dalintober ELCC
The move to the ‘Big School’ is already underway for the children of Dalintober ELCC.
Dalintober Primary School have been looking at ways to improve their quality of transition and now staff have developed a Transition Calendar with activities such as Story Telling Sessions beginning in September. Other activities will be running most months throughout the year helping the pre-school children to grow in confidence and build relationships with the class teachers.
