Volleyball Tournament at Dunoon Grammar School

Dunoon Grammar School hosted the annual Volleyball Tournament organised by Mrs Fiona McLean on Monday 3 March. The contestants arrived from the various local Primary Schools and the rules were explained to everyone. As normal it was a very well organised event with every child thoroughly enjoying the day! Dunoon Teams A & C made their way to the final with Dunoon Team H losing out to Strachur for third place.

Dunoon Grammar School – Gymnastics Trip

On Monday 24th February, twenty seven school gymnasts received specialist training at the Inverclyde National Sports Centre, in Largs. The pupils participated in a three hour coaching session led by two professional British Gymnastics Club coaches. The pupils performed to an excellent standard and were commended for the standard of their work by the guest tutors at this Olympic standard facility.

Lochgilphead Joint Campus: Run, Parents, Run!!

This year’s Campus Fun Run is fast approaching; medals have been ordered, marshalls are being recruited and Clyde, the Glasgow 2014 mascot, has been booked to present the prizes. The Fun Run usually attracts about 400 entrants making it one of the biggest running events in Argyll and this year we would like to make it even bigger by inviting parents to compete for the first time. MINI COMMONWEALTH GAMES AT DALINTOBER PRIMARY SCHOOL

Everyone in Dalintober Primary’s P7 class had a super time during their Mini Commonwealth Games which were held in school last week. The Games marked the end of an Interdisciplinary Task all about The Commonwealth and the Commonwealth Games.
A variety of activities had been enjoyed by the class leading up to The Dalintober Games, including compiling factfiles about some Commonwealth countries, making clay tiles to advertise the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and using a Diamond Nine to make group decisions about which events were most important. Gymnastics courses coming soon………

The following courses have been organised for primary class teachers to assist with the teaching of gymnastics and dance. The courses will be led by Anne Murphy, Development Officer with Education Scotland.
– Wednesday 26th February 10am-3pm, Inveraray Primary, gymnastics and dance.
– Tuesday 4th March 3.45pm-5.45pm, Colgrain Primary, gymnastics.
– Wednesday 5th March 3.45pm-5.45pm, Sandbank Primary, gymnastics.
– Thursday 13th March 10am-3pm, Oban (venue TBC), gymnastics and dance.

National Swimming Success

Congratulations to Kimmi Rae who has qualified for the Girls’ 12 and Under 50m backstroke event at the 2014 Scottish Schools’ Swimming Finals. Kimmi, who is a member of the Islay and Jura Dolphins A.S.C. , will be representing Bowmore Primary School at the Finals in East Kilbride on the 7th March. She is the first pupil from Bowmore Primary School and only the 4th swimmer from Islay and Jura to qualify for the Finals. Go for it and best of luck!

The Education Minister Outdoors

Stramash was delighted to welcome Michael Russell MSP , to view the projects and work of the organisation. He began the day by visiting the children at the outdoor nursery site to explore the site and discover more about the learning taking place within the early years setting outdoors. The children were very inquisitive to meet their special visitor!

Colgrain support Scotland at the Emirates Stadium

On 14th January, the Colgrain netball club travelled to the brand new Commonwealth Stadium in Glasgow to support the Scotland International team. The Scottish Ferns Netball team were playing the reigning commonwealth champions The New Zealand Ferns in an exciting and quick paced match at the Emirates Stadium!
Although the Ferns won 63 – 26, the pupils from Colgrain were always in good spirits, always encouraging the Thistles to do well with chants of ‘Come on Scotland’ and Mexican waves.

SKIPATHON AT KILCREGGAN PRIMARY

SKIPATHON & RED, WHITE AND BLUE DAY
AT KILCREGGAN PRIMARY SCHOOL

On Friday 11th October our pupils took part in a Skipathon in aid of The British Heart Foundation for which the pupils were sponsored. Each class had spent some time learning skipping routines set to music and parents and friends were then invited to attend a demonstration. On the same day we were all encouraged to wear red, white & blue and make a donation to support The Armed Forces charities.

Cardross Primary Football Winners

Cardross Primary came out on top at the recent HALCO schools Ardencaple Cup Football Tournament. The Tournament was played over two consecutive Friday nights with boys and girls from all of the HALCO school able to participate. It was a great event run by Ardencaple in association with Active Schools.

PRIMARY 7 VISIT ARDMAY OUTDOOR CENTRE

Our Primary 7 pupils visited Ardmay Outdoor Centre for a three-day residential course from 24th – 27th September. They had a great time, discovering new talents, making new friends and bulding on existing friendships. During their stay they undertook their Dynamic Youth Award.

‘Raising the Bar in Core Physical Education’

Early Years and Primary Practioners….. you are invited to ‘Raising the Bar In Core Physical Education in Argyll and Bute’ on Saturday 21st September in Inveraray Primary School, 9.30am for 10.00am till 3.30pm.
The day will include finding out about the ‘Significant Aspects of Core PE’ and practical workshops in Better Movers, Better Thinkers (BMT), Athletics, ‘ Let’s Move’, Athletics, PE in the Outdoors, ICT in PE.
