Port Charlotte Primary ‘My Study Bar’

A group of keen learners at Port Charlotte Primary School have been trialling the ict tool ‘My Study Bar’ which is a great help with reading, writing and spelling.  This is what they think of the tool so far…

THE MAC SCARECROWS OF GLENSUNNYBOGLE

Primary 6, Dalintober Primary School, entertained P1 and P2 pupils with a performance starring the Mac Scarecrow puppets.
All the children in the class had written scripts based on the Mac Scarecrows. They peer assessed the scripts and decided which play should be performed. “The Mac Scarecrow Clan is Rich” was chosen and performed to great acclaim from their audiences.
The whole class were involved in some way and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Young Tobermory Authors

Seeing a gap in the market, Primary 3 & 4, along with their teacher Mrs Carmichael, from Tobermory High School decided to embark on an enterprising interdisciplinary project and write their very own Mull & Iona Activity Book. This was designed for locals as well as visiting children to buy when they come to the Island. The full colour book is very informative and contains lots of fun activities for children to enjoy. It tells the reader many facts about the island they are visiting, including the history and wildlife of Mull as well as key events going on throughout the year. Argyll National Galleries Competition Finalist

Liam Campbell in Primary 6 Port Ellen Primary reached the final of the National Galleries ‘Inspired? Get Writing’ competition and was awarded a special merit in Category A. He chose an abstract painting by Jackson Pollock and wrote a poem which personified an abstract idea of chaos. He went to Edinburgh to hear his poem read aloud in the National Gallery of Scotland.

Catherine McCaig’s Trust: Gaelic Writing Competition

The Catherine McCaig Trust’s annual writing competition awards for endeavour in Gaelic writing combined with creativity in the use of ICT, Art and Music and aims to encourage our young people to develop their skills in Gaelic, relevant to 21st Century Gaelic education. The competition seeks entries from pupils in Gaelic Medium and Gaelic Learners Education. In its third year, entries continue to increase and improve in quality and the judges, from the Universities of Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow, continue to be impressed with the standard received from Argyll and Bute schools. Port Ellen’s Selfish Giant

THE SELFISH GIANT

P4/5 have just performaed their play named The Selfish Giant, which is adapted from a short story by Oscar Wilde. Firstly, we had to write the script so we all wrote a different part of the story. The sun was shining for our recent Open Day and lots of parents came to see what their children had been up to in school recently. Pupils presented their learning to the parents through presentations, demonstrations and by inviting parents to have a go at some activities.  Primary 2 and 3 got into role play and became Vikings for the day. Oban High’s New Manga, Anime and Comics Club!

Manga: food, mineral or comic? Not sure of the answer? You’re missing out on a whole world of possibilities when it comes to literacy and young people. Manga quite simply means “comics” in Japanese and is a term applied to an international market with a huge influence, especially when it comes to teens. Much of Manga’s growth in popularity is down to the impact of Anime films and series (Japanese animations). If you haven’t already, check out some of the visually stunning Studio Ghibli productions like Howl’s Moving Castle and Spirited Away.
