FilmG – Tobermory High School

Gàidhlig pupils from S4 and S6 at Tobermory High School are celebrating after being shortlisted in two categories of the 12-17 category of the FilmG Awards. FilmG is a Gaelic short film competition which is now established as one of country’s best platforms for getting yourself and your work noticed. New SCIAF Gaelic Resources launched in Oban High School

A new set of five, 4-colour posters aimed at encouraging young people to become active global citizens have been produced in Gaelic by SCIAF and will be distributed to schools across Scotland where Gaelic is used and taught. SCIAF and Rosemary Ward from the Gaelic Books Council presented to Gaelic fluent pupils and Gaelic senior pupils on Monday 14th January. Carol Singing at Bowmore

The Mainstream and Gaelic pre-five units of Bowmore Primary went to visit the residents of Kirk Care on Monday 17th December.  They entertained with renditions of ‘Jingle Bells’ and ‘When Santa got stuck up the Chimney’.  The Gaelic pre-five children followed on with a lovely Gaelic carol.  This was a lovely afternoon as the different generations enjoyed each other’s company. The children were suitably rewarded by the residents as they each left with a present, tucked under their arm – thank you so much everyone!

Port Ellen Primary Gaelic Choir Success at National Mod

On Sunday 14th October Port Ellen Primary Gaelic Choir excitedly began their journey to Dunoon to compete in this years National Mod. The children had an early start on Monday morning with many competing as individuals before the choir competitions in the afternoon. All of the children had worked extremely hard to prepare for their competitions and we were delighted to learn that so many of our individual competitors had been successful in their categories. Catherine McCaig’s Trust: Gaelic Writing Competition

The Catherine McCaig Trust’s annual writing competition awards for endeavour in Gaelic writing combined with creativity in the use of ICT, Art and Music and aims to encourage our young people to develop their skills in Gaelic, relevant to 21st Century Gaelic education. The competition seeks entries from pupils in Gaelic Medium and Gaelic Learners Education. In its third year, entries continue to increase and improve in quality and the judges, from the Universities of Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow, continue to be impressed with the standard received from Argyll and Bute schools.
