Scottish Children’s Book Awards Ceremony

A group of Primary 1-3 children were very lucky to be invited to the SCBA ceremony held in the Assembly Rooms, Edinburgh last Wednesday. Authors and illustrators of the three short listed books were in attendance. There was great excitement as the winner was announced, “Robot Rumpus”. The children were able to purchase a copy of their favourite book, which they had signed by the author. A fantastic experience!

Sponsored Read

It is World Book Day and to celebrate this, Primary 2 and Primary 2/1 completed a sponsored read.

We were able to bring in our own reading book from home and sit comfortably in the library for 20 minutes of quiet reading.  There were many different books being read and we were all very excited to share our stories when we returned to class.

It was a little tricky for some of us to stay so quiet for so long but we are happy to say we all did a wonderful job!IMG_0257

Primary 3 learn about number from the past

In maths topic this week, we have been exploring different number systems from the past.  We looked at Greek, Babylonian, Arabic, Egyptian and Mayan numbers.  We then used these number systems to design our own everyday items including watches, clocks, calculators and remote controls.  The children had great fun using the symbols and shapes to represent numbers.

Primary 3 Celtic Roundhouses

In Primary 3 we have been looking at The Celts  as part of our Romans topic.  We have been learning about how they lived, the types of houses they lived in and the blue body paint Celtic warriors used to make themselves look fearsome – the swirlier the better!

We have begun to create our very own models of Celtic roundhouses.  In pairs, we have been exploring the best materials to build our models with and our problem solving skills have been put to the test.

Stay tuned for our final masterpieces!

Values

The “Value of the Month” for February was “Love” and Primary 1a and Primary 6a led us in our learning about this value with their class assemblies. Their drama sketches, songs and stories all helped us to reflect on this value together. Thank you to all who participated in these assemblies. The “Value of the Month” for March is “Fairness”.

P4 does Comic Relief!

This year Primary 4 are responsible for planning and organising Red Nose Day as part of an enterprise topic. The big day is Friday 13th March so preparations are in full swing! We have split into teams with different responsibilities such as fund-raising, advertising and filming groups. As we work on this project we are developing skills in many areas such as teamwork, creativity, problem-solving, ICT and money management. Red noses are on sale for £1 – we will come around classes every morning to sell these. (We will also be selling loom band bracelets and funny faces next week – details to follow). The theme is “Make Your Face Funny for Money” so we invite you to come to school with a “funny” face on Friday 13th March and please bring a donation for this if you can. We are also holding a talent show during our assembly next week – each year group is invited to enter one “funny” act – so start rehearsing now!
