P6/7 Busy Bees

We have had a busy week in P6/7 finishing off lots of our tasks before the holidays.

This week we have been making shoes out of different materials as part of our fashion topic. – Jowita

We also designed our Christmas cards which we hope our parents will buy to help raise funds for the school. – Chloe

In PE were playing hand tennis a game where you hit the ball with your hand. We were playing 2v2. – Bobby

We were creating our places of worship tri-fold leaflet and printing them out to display. – Ryan

We had a discussion about our Thinking Skills and created a classroom display to use as a tool in our learning – Katie.

This week we were using atlases to locate places within Italy – we used the grid reference and index to help us find the places. – Carlotta.

P6/7 are working hard!

This week we have been working in groups to create a skyscape of religious buildings.

We were practising our tables facts by playing Tri-ominoes. It made us think hard.

We were lucky enough to have Mrs Davies come into school to talk to us about her role as an HR Manager at Harvey Nichols. We had a presentation and then a Q & A session which was very informative.

Another busy week in p1/2

We have been looking after some stick insects in our classroom and we all got the change to hold them. Oliver thought they were very soft to hold but Christopher thought they were tickly.

In maths we sorted a packet of sweets using colours and organised each colour into straight lines so we could compare them. Callum sorted the yellow sweets and that was the longest line. We worked together in small groups to make a pictogram of our bug hunt results and Maris noticed that we found the most woodlice. We also used a computer game to show the results of our bug hunt which Findlay enjoyed.

In number we have been using our large ten frame to show numbers to 10 using our bodies and to help with subtraction.

We worked in small groups to sequence the life cycle of different minibeasts (ladybird, butterfly, honey bee and ant). Brodie thinks his group worked well together so everyone got a turn.

During outdoor learning with Ms Ferguson we were clearing the nursery garden of weeds ready to plant some new flowers.

In art, we created snail pictures using collage in the style of Henri Matisse. Kaila enjoyed making her snail pictures.

P3/4/5

Today the 5th of October, a football coach called Lyn came to the school to begin teaching us skills to become better with a ball.

First we did a warm up by running round a circle of cones and when she blew the whistle we had to follow a command. Then we each got a ball and dribbled it in the circle of cones.

After that we had to pass the ball from foot to foot followed by lots of different games and skills.

We really enjoyed it and we have 5 more weeks to be the best we can with a football.037 038 039 040-copy 040 041 042 043 044 045 046 047 048 049 050

Minibeast hunt

We spent the afternoon with a Ranger from Beecraigs to enhance our learning in our Minibeasts topic. We began the afternoon in the classroom telling him everything we had already learned and then headed outside to see what minibeasts we could find in the playground. We had a great afternoon sharing our learning with the ranger and were very excited to be able to take a closer look at the minibeasts we found by collecting them in little tubs with magnifying glasses attached.

P6/7 Busy as ever!

In Maths some groups were learning how to calculate bills and figure out best buys. For some calculations we were using calculators and worked in groups. Another group were working on Hire Purchase calculations and will begin to look at Foreign Exchange.

In writing we were creating a reflective piece of writing, based around The Battle of the Somme from WW1. We took notes from videos and footage from the Battle which we used to help us with factual content. Some of the writing was so emotional it made Mrs Browne cry.

In PE we were further developing our handball and benchball skills. Everyone made good progress but Chloe and Jowita showed the greatest improvement.

We created clothes designs for dolls. We had to measure the models and select materials before creating a template to cut material from.  The next step is to sew the cut material to create the outfits.

What’s going on in P6/7?

In PE with Mr Cox we have started a new block of handball. We started by practising our passing skill and then applied these to a game situation.

Katie & Chloe P6

We brought our own clothes in from home to take part in a fashion show in class. We wrote a descriptive paragraph about our chosen outfit to be read as we modelled during the fashion show.

Witkoria & Carlotta P6

We were working individually and with partners to create sections of our assembly which will be shared with parents/carers and other classes on Wednesday 28th September 2016.

Abby  P7

We created Growth Mindset posters which will be displayed around the school after being shown at our Assembly.

Donnie & Kian P7

In Maths we have been working on money. Some groups have been looking at budgetting and credit cards APR calculations, other groups have been calculating bills and creating receipts.

Ryan P7 & Kai P6

We were practising putting someone into the recovery position in small groups. Then we recorded this using the I Pad.

Alice, Louise & Jowita P6.

P3/4

On Wednesday 14th September P 3/4/5 went to the National Museum in Edinburgh to visit the Celt exhibition as part of our topic on the Celts.

We had a great time, learned a lot (but knew a lot too!!!!), but were not allowed to take photos in the exhibition. However we did take pictures of us enjoying the workshop where we were archaeologists for a day.

Here are some of those photos of us in action.
