TheLifeOfTay!

A busy week in the Autumnal sun.

We have been outside and enjoyed time in the short-lived snow.

Our numberwork is progressing day by day and some of us are now beginning to recognise pictures and related numerals.

We have also advanced in our Literacy and are beginning to independently order the months of the year and days of the week.

We have also had great fun making spoon people….with bright coloured feathers for hair and pipe cleaners for legs and arms!

Book Week Scotland in P5! 📚🎉

Primary 5 are enjoying  a fantastic week celebrating Book Week Scotland! We started with a lovely visit to the library where everyone had the chance to browse, and chat about their favourite stories. Back in school, we held a fun book swap, giving pupils the opportunity to discover new authors and genres through books shared by the entire school.

One of the week’s highlights was our creative art session, where the children painted story characters onto potatoes! Their imaginations ran wild and the results were wonderfully unique

Tomorrow, we are excited to join the whole school for our Reading River—a special chance for everyone to come together and share the joy of reading. We can’t wait!

📖✨

P4/3 Visit to the Library

Continuing our celebration of books and reading for enjoyment during this Book Week we went for a visit to West Calder Library. The rain did not put us off and we had a lovely walk into West Calder. Ann the librarian was very welcoming and delighted to see us. She read us a very funny David Walliams book about a little girl who brought her pet snake to school. We then played an alphabet game and we had a little biscuit. We then spent some time looking at the books and we all checked our books out using  the machine. Thank you so much to Ann for our lovely visit.

P4/3 Gifting Party

We got Book Week Scotland off to a fun start with our hosting party in P4/3. Some of our parents and carers joined us this afternoon to do some fun activities related to books. P3 were gifted a Read, Write, Count bag  and P4 were gifted a new book. We all enjoyed creating a book character from a potato. We were very creative in our use of the materials we had to make the characters. We made Where’s Wally, Mr Twit, the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland, a minion, some aliens Harry Potter, Hermoine and lots of others. Thank you to all ours mums, dads and grandparents who came to help us. We especially loved the hot chocolate and biscuits.

P5 update 14.11.25

P5 had a visit this week from Resilient Rhythms. It was fascinating to learn about the origins of a new musical instrument, and have a go at it. We are looking forward to sharing what we have learned in the coming weeks.

We have been continuing our learning about Mary Queen of Scots and enjoyed finding out some interesting facts about Edinburgh at that time.  We are all very grateful for modern plumbing! We created images of cramped, dilapidated buildings and used ink and quills to give them an old worldly feel.  Have a good weekend.

Primary 1

Primary one learned all about remembrance day this week. We participated in a whole school assembly led by Primary 6 ,everyone was wry respectful during the two items silence. Back in class we made our own poppies using our handprints.

During Outdoor learning we went up to the local woodland area with our clipboards to complete a treasure hunt. We all really enjoy exploring the woodland area.

Throughout the week we have been practicing our Christmas Nativity show, this is our first time on the stage performing and we are all doing very well. If we have a speaking part it would be really good to practice our words at home.

As we have our first school Christmas 🎄 fair coming up we have been working like Santa’s elf’s and making some unique things to sell.

The iPads are very popular in class and we are all becoming very independent at putting in the code and accessing Sumdog and games, we all found this very tricky to start with.

Have a lovely weekend.

WE have enjoyed our wet week!

You have booted-up and had time outside on the Trail Trail and Kick Pitch where we played together.

We have also enjoyed jigsaw challenges this week and have built towers with our giant Lego!

We have also worked really hard on our problem solving skills…we have matched our 1-10 acorn spots with the number pair.

….and finally we have enjoyed some sun in our classroom!

Zac – I liked making my name.

Freya – I made a self portrait with things I found in the woods.

Oonagh – Do you know you can make your own self portrait with things in the woods like twigs and leaves?

Jorja – It’s fun to explore in the woods and use what’s there to make our own pictures.

Ariana – It’s fun going to the trim trail and playing.

Primary 1

In  Primary one this week we have been learning all about firework 🎆 safety. We used bonfire 🔥 night to inspire our writing for the week, we talked lots about what fireworks look, sound and smell like. After our discussions we drew pictures of fireworks and wrote a sentence.

We also used fireworks to inspire our art work this week, we created beautiful fireworks in the night sky art using paint and forks!

During RE 🙏 we learned all about All Saints and All Souls’ Day. We found it very interesting learning about different saints and how God calls us all to be good.

Everyone in class voted to change a play area to a pizza shop! We made shop posters and decided how much we would charge people for our pizzas. We also had to make pizza dough and the toppings for the pizzas. 🍕 We have had lots of fun making and selling pizzas this week.

For outdoor learning this week we enjoyed some time in the outdoor classroom, we built towers and bridges together as well as having time to explore other toys.

On Friday we celebrated mass together with the whole school and members of the parish. We were all very respectful during the mass.

Have a lovely weekend everyone 😀
