PE Daily Challenge P1-3

Good morning boys and girls, today we have a new challenge for PE. You will need 1 toilet roll (or another household object to replace a ball) and a space big enough to move around.
How creative can you be in the object you choose?
Is there another object that can make the challenge a bit easier or harder?
How many keepy uppys can you do with your object using lots of different parts of your body at one time? Good luck!

PE Challenge P1-P3

Afternoon boys and girls, today I have a challenge for you which focuses on our fine motor skills. It’s about little movements with parts of our body.

To complete the challenge you will need 3 teabags, 1 mug and a space big enough for 5 steps backwards.

How many teabags can you get in the mug from 5 steps away?

If you find it tricky, try stepping forward or using a bowl instead of a mug. If you think you want to make it a bit harder try throwing with the hand you do not write with 😀

Good luck!

Our new topic for the Summer term is about PLANTS. We will be finding out what plants need to grow, the parts of a plant, the job each part of the plant does and hopefully you will be able to grow a plant or two of your own.

Here are the resources you will need.

Wk 1 – PPT What plants need

Wk 1 – What Plants Need

Wk 1 What I need to grow

  1. Look at the PowerPoint. It is asking you about what plants need to grow.
  2. After you have watched the PowerPoint, complete the activity called “What Plants Need.” Use some nice bright colours for your pictures.
  3. After you have finished there is another activity for you to do. It is called “What I Need to Grow.”
  4. Well done!
  5. Next week we will be looking at the different parts of a plant.Single Flower Cartoon photos, royalty-free images, graphics ...

Welcome to Term 4, P2B!

Hello P2B Cherubs.

Welcome to Term 4! You have all worked so hard to get to this point and have come on so much since the beginning of Primary 2 – I’m very proud of you all.

I hope that you had a lovely Easter break with you families and have been enjoying the sunshine.

I have attached this week’s home learning grid with various activities and will be updating the Sumdog challenges and reading books on the ActiveLearn site throughout the day.

P2 Home Learning – Week 3

Remember: only do what you can, this is only a guide of what kinds of things that we would be covering and some revision of previous learning.

For some different kinds of activities, UNICEF are publishing an article alongside some activities every week which explore children’s Rights. This week the article is all about ensuring children have the right to the best possible health. The power point for this is attached below.

Finally, I saw this activity online and thought it would be a really nice thing to do (see photo below). It would be good to paint a rock every week and write something that we are thankful for during the quarantine (e.g. family time, playing outside, using Zoom to speak to relatives). Then you could make a display in your garden.  We could even bring one each into school to make a display when everything goes back to normal 🙂

Take care everyone – any questions please get in touch via the blog or through twitter.

P2/1 Welcome to Term 4

Good morning P2/1. I hope you have enjoyed a break and are ready to try a little more learning from home. I am missing you all and have been wondering how you are all doing.

Home Learning Grid 3 has been attached for P2 children in our class. P1 children should still be working on the activities listed on the grids issued in your home learning folders. (Reading, Writing, Numeracy and Maths). P1 children can also complete the yellow column on the P2 grid as this covers our whole class topics.

There are new Spelling, Maths and Grammar challenges on Sumdog so please have a go.

Playground Competition

Hello everybody,

I hope you are enjoying spending time with your family this Easter. As you know, we have been working to improve our school playground and have recently had a number of new playground markings/games painted on the ground. Our Parent Council have told us about an amazing competition where we have the chance to win £10 000 to make our playground even better.

Click here and it should direct you to the competition documents. I’d really like you to complete the tasks and ask your parents to submit your competition entry via email to play@creativeplayuk.com by 1st May. I would also ask that you include the school email address (wlsimpson-ps@westlothian.org.uk) in your entries so I can get an idea of the improvements you would like to see. There are quite a few tasks to do so make sure you don’t run out of time!

Creative Play and I want to see what you’re doing, so please ask parents to share your photo on social media tagging @CreativePlayUK, @SimpsonPrimary and the hashtag #playgroundprize. Please make sure your name is not posted alongside your picture due to West Lothian policy. If we get a lot of people using the tags, it will get our school really well known with the company and hopefully improve our chances of winning!

Have fun, get creative and I’m looking forward to seeing your ideas.

P2 – Easter Task

Hello P2.  I hope you are all doing well. I have enjoyed seeing some of the learning you are doing at home. Thanks for sharing.

Your Religious and Moral Education activity this week ( or during the holidays) is to look at the Easter story.

  1. Make a prediction – What is Easter?
  2. Watch the Christian story of Easter – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wnbo2AmS3OI
  3. Select an activity to complete.
  • Sequence the story – Use these cards to put the events in the correct order ( sequence cards – Easter ) Or make your own picture cards with a sentence on each for someone else to sequence.
  • Use your imagination to make a model last supper. Build it with lego or use an old box as the table. Make Jesus and the disciples from paper or play dough.

  • Design and draw your own Easter bonnet and if you have the materials, you could make it to wear. The easiest way to make a hat is to staple, glue or stick a strip of paper to fit your head and then add your pictures to it. Everyone in your home could join in and you could have an Easter parade.

We can’t wait to see how creative you will be with your ideas. Good luck!

P2B – Week Beginning 30.3.20

Hello P2B,

I hope that you are all doing well, keeping safe and being good!

Here are a couple of updates for this week:

  • I have attached the Week 2 Home Learning grid. Remember: just do what you can and if you really like an activity you can always extend it, e.g. create a project or do some research online.
  • I have created a ‘competition’ on Sumdog – go and check it out if you can and see if you can earn a place on the leader board!
  • Education City has moved to a new platform to accommodate all of it’s users, if you’re experiencing any issues with this, get in touch here or via twitter @MsHBrown1
  • I have also attached some P.E. games and activities from Mr Tennant – the P.E. spelling one looks really fun!
  • I will be renewing the reading books and assigning some number/ maths words on ActiveLearn later in the week – these are not mandatory, just an extra resource for you to use.
  • This is an excellent resource (and the activities do take a while!)  For P2 look for Level 1 and try the topic ‘Born to Party’.  Here is the link: https://enterprisingschools.scot/resources-2/

And finally, while the sun is making an appearance please try to make the most of it, get into the garden for some exercise, collect some bugs or try your hand a some water ‘painting’.

Missing you all P2B,

Ms JB
