Primary 3/2

Primary 3/2 worked as a team to create a class charter to ensure that the rights of all pupils are respected. After learning about the rights within the UNCRC, the class agreed on a set of actions that would help everyone to be safe, learn, play and be listened to in the classroom. They also made a list of actions for teachers to follow too.  Each pupil then created their own alien character for the wall to show that we will all work together to follow our class charter.

P5-7 Planting Event

On Friday, a group of pupils from P5-7 took part in a community planting event with Mirin and Nelly from the Edinburgh and Lothians Green Space Trust. We were invited along to help with the trust’s project to help create better habitats in our local area for great crested newts. This species of newt is protected and can be found locally.

The pupils planted plants such as meadow sweet, water mint and marsh cinquefoil around the pond edge which should serve as homes for the newts and protection from predators. The pupils also planted some trees near to the pond area. It was great fun, if a little muddy! Many of the children said they would like to return to the pond once the plants have had a chance to grow to see the difference they have made.

P6 STEM: Volcanoes

To finish off our Natural Disasters project, P6 enjoyed building and erupting volcanoes. We used our research skills to plan and write news reports about a Volcanic eruption. We know what a volcano is made of and should look like. We designed and decorated our volcanoes. We used our STEM skills to measure and mix ingredients to create a chemical reaction. Look at our lava pouring down our volcanoes.

P6 Sharing the Learning Morning

Thank you to our grownups who made it along to visit the P6 showing on Friday. The class loved sharing their Sky Up Academy experience with you.

The movie trailers were entirely child led and each child took on an important role in a group to complete the challenge.  ICT, literacy, expressive arts and Health & wellbeing skills were all developed on the day.  We were very impressed with the cooperation in the teams too!
