Good Morning – 26.5.2020

Good Morning Primary 1,

We all have different feelings and emotions and sometimes we show this through our facial expressions. We can tell people are happy if they are smiling or sad if they are crying. This week we are thinking about facial expressions. During this lock down everyone feels differently, maybe a bit more worried than we usually are as times are so different but that is okay.

I have found a little video that explains about different facial expressions and feelings.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zfjn47h

Have a think about all the facial expressions that you can make.

These expressions usually match your feelings. Here is a clip that helps you to think about all the different feelings that you can have, it is one we often use in class.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wf5K3pP2IUQ

See how many different expressions you can make.

Take care and stay safe Primary One.

Happy Friday 22.5.2020

At the beginning of lock down we asked you to make rainbow pictures for your house windows. This is to spread hope and make people smile. We are asking this again, but this time to brighten up our school for all to see.

We have set up a collection point outside the main entrance of the school.  Every school day between 8am-4pm there will be a plastic set of drawers outside the door.  Please put your completed rainbow picture in the top drawer.  The other drawers are full of crayons and paper so if you need some resources please take what you need.

We will then put your rainbow pictures up on the windows for everyone to see.  Be as creative as you like and do it as many times as you like, we will find space for them all.

Lets make LPS bright and colourful for all to see.

Here is my picture that Lily made a few weeks ago for our house.

Remember to stay in touch- we just want to know that all our families are safe and well.

It’s the weekend, I hope that you all have a lovely, relaxing time.

Good Morning Primary 1- 20.05.2020

Good morning everyone,

We are meant to be getting lots of lovely sunshine today so fingers crossed.

I know that you have already heard the story of the Elves and the Shoe Maker but I have put a link to a podcast below. This is a different way to listen to a story as there are no pictures to see. Maybe you could relax in your garden or in a comfy spot in your house, close your eyes and imagine the story in your head. If you would like a challenge become an illustrator and  create your own pictures.

In number work this week we are learning about counting on. This means that you will need to make a number line to 10 or 20, start on one number and jump on the rest. It is tricky to remember to jump to a new number each time. I have attached a power point to help you.

Again, please do what you can and stay in touch. We love to see all the photos or hear what you have been up to.

Take care Primary 1, love all your teachers.

Monday 18th May 2020 – Good Morning!

Good Morning Primary 1!

I hope that you have all had a lovely weekend and spent some time relaxing with your family. This week we are going to focus on the Fairy Tale The Elves and the Shoemaker.

I wonder if you can find out what makes a story a Fairy Tale?

I have added the links above which includes our learning grid for this week and a few printable sheets. These sheets are for reference only. Please do not print them out. They will give you ideas of activities to work through and develop with your child.

The Elves and the Shoemaker is a really lovely story about helping others. This is something that we always try and do in Primary 1. I have recorded myself reading the story to get you started and more activities will follow from the Primary 1 teachers  throughout the week.

Have a wonderful week full of learning and fun and remember to stay in touch- even to say hello! Take care and stay safe.

Happy Friday 15.5.2020

Happy Friday Everyone,

Another week has gone by and I have had loads of fantastic messages and pictures that make me smile. Please continue to keep in touch weekly- even if it is just to say hello and that you are safe.

I am hoping to go for a bike ride and some walks with my family over the weekend so hopefully the sun keeps shining.  Have fun and stay safe.

Good Afternoon Primary 1!

Good afternoon Primary 1!

I am sure that you have all been working hard this week and it has been so nice to hear from so many families. Please continue to keep in touch.

Our sounds for this week are oo and ee. To support this I have put links to alphablocks.  They will help you to blend the letters together into words- which can be quite tricky.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01py6g1/alphablocks-series-3-18-book

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01py516/alphablocks-series-3-15-beep

I wonder if you can go on a sound hunt and look for things around your house that have oo and ee in them?

Listening to stories is something that we do everyday in class and as I can’t be there to read you one I have added a story below. There is also some fun activities to do alongside it. The story is of the Ugly Duckling. It is another Fairy Tale, just like Goldilocks. Have a think throughout the story about how the Ugly Duckling would feel, it may change as the book goes on.

Enjoy the rest of your afternoon and stay safe!

Good Morning 12.5.2020

Good Morning Primary 1!

We have been so lucky with this weather and I hope the sun keeps shining on you.

Now, this morning we are learning about pictograms. A pictogram is a chart that uses pictures to represent data. Pictograms are set out in the same way as bar charts, but instead of bars they use columns of pictures to show the numbers involved. It makes it easy for you to count each line.

Click on the link below to watch a clip about pictorams:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zg4d2hv

Now, I have made a short lesson explaining what I want you to do. I have made lots of pictograms from the things I have in my house and when I was out a walk. I would love to see some photos of pictograms you make. Please remember that these do not have to be made on a computer or even drawn on paper. Use objects to make them, be creative. I have just made lots of different ones to give you examples.

To consolidate your learning Topmarks has lots of great games you can play. Try pictograms, pictographs game, fishing and interpreting data. Most importantly have fun!

I miss seeing all of you and hearing all your stories. We are asking that you contact your teacher at least once a week to say hello and let us know that you are safe and well. If you would like to add work to that e-mail then that would be amazing. Remember to do what you can and whatever that is you are doing great!

Stay safe Primary 1

Enjoy your weekend!

Hello boys and girls,

I just wanted to say hello and to let you know that I miss you all. I usually pop down a couple of days a week and enjoy watching you playing and learning with your friends. The ladies in nursery have been very busy posting activities that you can do from home and I can see from the pictures and comments on your Learning Journey that you have been busy. It’s great to stay in touch as we miss you all!

If you are off to school after the summer more information will come along over the next few weeks about the transition activities that your school will be holding. This is very different from what we usually do and the teachers are all working hard to get things ready for you.

Keep safe over the weekend and hopefully the sun will continue to shine!

Happy Friday Primary 1 8.5.2020

Good morning everyone.

Well today marks the end of 6 weeks learning at home. I just want to say to all the boys and girls, and their families, that you are all doing a fantastic job! These are very different times to what we have ever experienced before. Working and learning at home, not really leaving the house and not seeing extended family and friends.

The best part of the day for me is reading the messages from you- whether it’s a quick hello to let me know that you are safe or photographs and videos of you at home. Please keep doing what you can. However big or small you are always learning new skills that will benefit you in the future. My 2 children have been busy learning life skills such as hoovering and changing their bed, something we just never had time to do before but excellent skills to have. Please keep in touch as I miss seeing you all each day, hearing all your stories and getting a cuddle.

Now the weekend has come around again and we can all relax and hopefully enjoy the sunshine. I thought I would share another picture of my kitten Ace who likes to watch me work. He has become best friends with my big cat called Flynn. I am not sure Flynn enjoys it so much!

I will speak to you all again on Monday when we will issue a new plan and some fun and exciting activities to do if you can manage them.

Take care boys and girls

Good Afternoon 6th May 2020

Good afternoon boys and girls, and what a sunny afternoon it is! The perfect day to go out into your garden and look for all the signs of Spring to help you with your task. I can hear the birds chirping, see the shining sun and there are lots of lovely flowers all around.

Now watch the lesson (Writing a Spring Poem) below and see if you can write your own acrostic poem. Please remember that we love to see photos of your work, including ones that we can tweet. Have a lovely Spring day and we will see you again tomorrow.

Friday 1st May 2020

Good Morning Primary 1!

I can’t believe it is May already. It looks like we are in for another lovely weekend with some sunshine. I hope that you have all worked hard this week and please keep sending your photos- it makes all the teachers smile.

Miss Jamieson has written lots of very useful information in the post below so please have a look.

I am going to relax this weekend with my family and maybe play some board games. Our favourite is Ludo, do you have a favourite? We will also be busy looking after our new kitten called Ace. He arrived just before lock down and has been taking time to settle in and getting to know his family and furry friends. He is very lively and active and we are having lots of fun with him (maybe not during the night).

Have a lovely holiday weekend and we will be back on Wednesday.

Good Afternoon Primary 1- Wednesday 29th April 2020

Good afternoon boys and girls,

I hope you are all having a lovely day so far. During this time at home we have to make sure that we keep our bodies and minds active. I have been trying to do Joe Wicks most days with my big boy and girl if I can’t get outside. I have put the link below if you want to try it.

A good way to relax is with Cosmic Kids Zen Den. This one talks about all our different feelings and emotions that we have.

I wonder if you can show emotions using your face and ask an adult to guess what it is- you do this in drama with Mrs Chisholm.

To finish off today I thought I would share a collage I made of my family keeping active . We have even managed to find some rope swings and Roxy, our dog, had a swim to cool down in a local river.

Keep safe Primary 1 we are missing your smiling faces.

All the P1 teachers.

Good Morning Primary 1!

Good morning Primary 1!

I thought I would give you some ideas for the STEM activity this morning. I have made a collage  of lots of different life cycles that you can create. You could either copy one of these or use your imagination to think of a different way to design one. The most important thing is to have fun and remember to send us some pictures.

Here is a little video that explains about life cycles. See how many different animals you can spot in it.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z6882hv/articles/zttckqt

Lastly, when you and your family need a little break from all the crafting, here is a nice story about a little owl’s new egg. You will have to use your listening skills and imagination for some of it.

We are really missing you all. Take care and stay safe!

Primary 1 Teachers

Happy Friday!

Good Morning Primary 1,

Another week of home learning has passed and you have all been very busy. I have really enjoyed all the pictures and videos I have been sent – they made me smile. Please keep sending me pictures of what you are up to, or even just a note to say hello.

Remember that nothing has to be printed out at all- if we attach a sheet it is just to give you ideas and can be written into your child’s jotter. A good way to reduce, reuse and recycle after celebrating World Earth Day!

Our new weekly learning grid will be issued on Monday and will be available on the website and on here. A useful tip is to screenshot or download it so you have it handy.

Finally- have a lovely weekend in this beautiful weather and enjoy some family time.

Keep safe and I will speak to you on Monday,

Mrs Menmuir

World Earth Day!

Good afternoon boys and girls!

We hope that you have all been busy enjoying our planet in celebration of World Earth Day and we can’t wait to see any models you have made. If you are looking for more things to keep you busy please click on the links below as there are some really interesting and fun activities to do such as creating your own terrarium or making up your own stories. You can even earn a Blue Peter Badge by drawing your own pet, or one you would like to have!

We have included a story from space as it shows you how small our plant is from so far away. Please remember that you do not have to do all the activities suggested these are just ideas.
