Good morning, everyone!

I hope you all had a lovely weekend.  I thought I’d share another of my favourite Mr Men stories – Mr Bump.  He has lots of accidents but it all works out in the end!  Tell someone your favourite part.

This week’s digraph is    oi    and here is Geraldine the Giraffe to help you with this.

There are two other blog posts for all the Primary 2 children  –  one about our new topic, Minibeasts, and one about this week’s maths, 3D Shape.  Have a look at them for all the links to support your learning.

Here is a link to this week’s Learning Grid:     Learning Grid week 7

Have a fun day and just do what you can!

Take care,  Mrs Herbison

Good morning, everyone!

I hope you had a lovely day yesterday.  It has been so nice to hear updates from you about how you are getting on.  It just reminds me of how imaginative and creative you all are.  Thank you for sharing with me.

Today is National Numeracy Day

Here are some fun activities you may want to choose to do.

This week’s learning grid asks you to research houses and homes in different parts of the world and then draw and label a house of your choice from a different country.

Here is a link to a PowerPoint which may give you some ideas.  Remember, these are suggested activities and you just do what fits in with your family.  There is no pressure to do everything!

P2A Tuesday, 12th May

Good morning, everyone!

Thank you to everyone who has emailed me over the past week.  It is always great to read and see what you have been doing at home with your families.  If you haven’t emailed me yet, please try to email today and let me know what you have been doing at home.

Although it was a little cooler yesterday, I hope you still managed to get outside to play, walk or cycle.  I wonder how many of you prefer to  go for a cycle and how many of you prefer to go for a walk?  You could draw a picture of which one you like the best and email it to me.  That’s quite tricky for me to decide as I love to walk and to cycle so I would have to draw a picture of me walking along the river path and a picture of me cycling along the river path!

We are learning the    qu   sound in our phonics this week.  Here is Geraldine the Giraffe to help you with this sound.

Remember there is a 2D Shape blog this week with links to help you learn about all the shapes.

I received an email yesterday with a super picture made from 2Dshapes.  I thought I’d share this with you today.

Can you name all the 2D shapes?

I also received an email telling me about someone in our class who made 2D shape flashcards and was teaching other family members all the shapes.  Fantastic shape work!

Have a great day, everyone!

2D Shape P2/1, P2a P2b 12.05.20

Good morning, everyone!

What is your favourite 2D shape?  Did you make a Shape Collage?  Here are a couple of 2D shape collages we like.

Which one do like the best?  What shapes can you see?

Guess my shape:

I have 5 straight sides and 5 corners.  Which shape am I?

I have 6 straight sides and 6 corners.  Which shape am I?

You could ask someone in your family questions like this.  How many will they guess?

P2A Monday, 11th May

Good morning, everyone!

I hope you are all well and had a lovely weekend.  What did you do this weekend?  I enjoyed spending time in my garden on Saturday.  I cut my grass and repotted some plants as they were too big for the pot they were in.  I also looked at my seeds which I had sown a couple of weeks ago.  I was really happy to see seedlings beginning to shoot up.  I wonder how your seeds are coming along as I know some of you planted seeds.  You could take photos or draw pictures of them and send them to me.  I went for a bike ride yesterday.  It was good fun and the sun was shining when I set off.  But the weather soon changed and all of a sudden hailstones began to fall.  I could hear them tapping on my helmet!  I was glad to get home and warm up with a hot cup of tea!

This week we are going to learn about 2D shapes.  You can do lots of fun things with shapes so I hope you enjoy our learning activities.  Here is a link to our Learning Grid for this week.  Please try to email me once a week to keep in touch.

Primary 2A Friday, 8th May

Good morning, everyone!

I hope you have had a lovely week.  Did any of you decorate a stone?  I took my stones with me when I went a walk yesterday.  I carefully put them along the path where other families will be able to see them.  I hope it brings a smile to their faces!

Today is a day for celebration.  It is the 75th anniversary of the day the Second World War ended in our country.  Many people were presented with different types of medals after the war.

Create your very own medal!

You could design a medal for yourself or for someone in your family.  What could the medal be for?   Think about what you would have on the medal and what colour would it be?  What would the ribbon look like?  You could send me a photo of your medal telling me who it is for and why.

Have a wonderful weekend.  Stay well and safe.

Primary 2A Thursday, 7th May

Good morning, everyone!  I hope you all enjoyed the wonderful sunny day we had yesterday.  I began my day reading some emails from you.  It’s always nice to hear and see what you have been doing at home.  Did any of you find and paint a stone?  It would be great to see them so please remember to send me your pictures.

I enjoyed the sunshine in my garden.  I was looking at my little cherry tree and most of the blossom has gone and cherries are beginning to form.  I don’t think it will be too long now before it will be full of juicy cherries.  Have you noticed any changes taking place around you?

Primary 2A Wednesday 6.5.20

Good morning, everyone!  I hope you had a lovely weekend with your families and are all healthy and well.

I enjoyed going for some walks and bike rides with my family this weekend.  I love to walk and cycle along the river and it makes me smile to see so many butterflies and birds and bees all fluttering and flying and buzzing about.  Miss McDermott told me that she had seen a beautiful painted stone when she was on a walk.  So my family decided to paint some stones.  Here they are.

You could look for a stone and paint it or write a message on it.  When you go for a walk or a cycle you could leave your stone somewhere for other families to see.  Or you could put your stone on your doorstep or in your garden.  I would love to see photos of your stones.  Have fun choosing a stone and painting it.

Have a great day, everyone!

Primary 2A Friday, 1st May

Good morning, everyone.  Happy Friday!

This has been a very quick week and I have really enjoyed reading all your emails about the many different activities you have all be doing with your families.  It is just wonderful to hear, and sometimes see, what you been doing as a family.  So a huge Thank You to everyone!

Have any of you designed a Super Bear this week?  I would love to see your designs!

Today is the beginning of a new month.  It is the first day of May, the 5th month of the year.  Do you remember how many months there are in a year?  Can you say the months in order?  You could try to begin with a different month each time and not always begin with January!  Here is a link to a song about the months.  You could sing this song with your family.

It is a holiday weekend so our learning grid activities will begin next Wednesday.  Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy this time with your families.

Have a great day, everyone.

Primary 2A Thursday 30.4.20

Good morning, everyone!  I hope you are having a good week.  I have enjoyed reading your emails and spending time outdoors.  Even though it was cooler yesterday and a little rainy, I still enjoyed my walk along the river.  I saw many squirrels and a couple of rabbits.  I could also hear lots of birds singing in the trees.  Have you noticed any wildlife when you have been outdoors?  Let me know what you have seen?

Happy 100th Birthday

Today is the 100th birthday of Captain Tom Moore.  He has been in the news quite a lot over the last few weeks.  Here is a link to Newsround where you can find out a little more about him.

I hope you enjoy learning a little more about Captain Tom Moore.  Can you find out the name of the song he has been singing?  Let me know if you find out.
