This week in P3…

“We really enjoyed our art lesson this week.  We drew big flowers and then we put glue over all of the pencil lines.  Once it was dry we chose really bright coloured chalk to colour them in.  The glue left a black line that the chalk couldn’t stick to.” – Aydan & Ella

“I liked the art because it was really fun and I now know how to draw big flowers!” -Zara

(Look out for these flowers brightening up our new Quiet Zone soon! – Miss Marnie)

“This week I enjoyed PE because we learned how to do “keepie-upies” and “pizza slices” in Tennis!” – Oliver

“I liked using repeated addition to solve times table sums.” – Jacob C

“I liked Maths with Mr Keast.  We did the 5 times table and we had to solve the word problems.” – Tain

“I enjoyed making a Powerpoint about the Gift of the Nile for our Ancient Egypt topic.” – Euan

“I enjoyed working out the maths sums using different strategies.” – Rebecca C

“I liked sharing the “In the News” part of our April Home Learning.  I liked listening to what people had to say about the news stories.” – Kitty

“I enjoyed doing jigsaws because we worked together.  When we couldn’t do it we just kept on trying!” – Ellie

“I liked playing rounders!” – Aydan

“I liked the April Home Learning because it was really fun and we got to do lots of activities.  My favourite one was “Reading for Enjoyment” and I read Matilda!” – Lola B

*New* May Home Learning:   HL MAY

Outdoor Maths

P7 were very fortunate with the weather this morning while they went outside to measure the length and height of a variety of things, using a selection of different measuring tools. Before they started with the actual measuring they had to estimate the length – very interesting! However, with a bit of discussion and comparison, estimates did become less random and more realistic.

Miss Lenathen, Rugby and Basketball

P7 and Miss Lenathen, a PGDE student from Edinburgh University, have been getting to know each other this week. Miss Lenathen is working closely with myself to plan and teach a variety of lessons over the next 5 weeks.

Sport has featured widely this week. The class have been doing athletics with Mr Stewart in PE, with pupils aiming to qualify for a competition. Gavin, the development coach from Livingston RFC, held another successful training session on the field. Several of the ICHS cluster schools attended a rugby festival on Friday morning where the pupils got to show off their skills and had lots of fun doing so. Photos to follow, hopefully tomorrow.

What can I say about the basketball teams except “You are all amazing!” Very well done on your achievements. Thank you to Mrs Taylor and Abby.

Aside from the sporting events, P7 have begun learning about Pilgrimages in RME, renewable and non-renewable energy sources in Science and coordinates across 4 quadrants in maths. In Literacy we have been looking at non-fiction books.

Don’t forget our assembly is on 11th May at 9:15am.

P7 will visit The Risk Factory on Thursday 10th May.

P3 Numeracy, Maths & French

Following on from our numeracy PATPAL last week, Primary 3 have been sharing the different ways that they know to solve multiplication problems.

We worked with our talk partners to try out different strategies to help us solve some word problems:

We have also been exploring different ways to present data and used our French knowledge of numbers and colours to create class surveys. We used tally marks to gather the data and bar charts to display it.

Next week in French we will be learning more ways to answer the question: “Quel temp fait-il?”

Moving On

Dear parent/carer

From June 4th, I will no longer be the PE teacher at Livingston Village Primary school. I have accepted the post as Principal Teacher of the Scottish Attainment Challenge schools in West Lothian. This promoted post was too good an opportunity to turn down and I am very excited for this new challenge. I will be working between St Thomas’ Primary School in Addiewell and Bridgend in Linlithgow.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all your support over the years. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here and I will miss the children, staff and yourselves incredibly.  I have so many happy memories and I have no doubt that PE and school sport will continue to flourish in my absence.  I will be back at the end of term to celebrate all our fantastic sporting achievements this year at the Sports Committee Assembly.

My last day at LVPS will be on Tuesday the 29th May. I will also be ensuring that our application for an unprecedented 3rd sportscotland school sport gold award will be completed and if successful I hope to come back in November 2018 for the presentation.

I am also delighted to announce how much we raised at SportaFUNd. Abbie, our former pupil, raised £360.00 with the bake sale, the ELC raised £395.00 and the school raised a whopping £1724.20.  This demonstrates all the hard work, dedication and commitment from everybody connected to this fabulous school.

Thank you once again.

Kind regards

Mr Stewart.
