P7 Update

Our thoughts on this week…

Kieran – I struggled on percentages , decimals and fractions but now I know how to do them a lot quicker after practising this week.

Brooke – I think that the auditions for this years p7-p6 show went OK for me trying to do a accent was hard for me

Sophie – In maths we are doing percentages, decimals and fractions and from last week I know that I am getting better at it and I feel a lot more confident.

Bobby – Auditioning for the show was really hard especially since I had to go last because I saw how well the others did and was even more nervous than I was before, but I think overall I did OK because I didn’t forget any lines.

Erin – We did auditions this week and I think that I did really good and I hope that I get the part!

Katie – On Wednesday some of us did P6 to P7 show and I was the only one going for Gravel and I think I done really well.    🙂

Miss Marnie and I have been blown away by the talent demonstrated during the auditions for Rock Bottom this week. Well done to everyone who participated, we have a very difficult time ahead, trying to decide on the casting.

Robert Burns projects are due in on Friday 15th. I am very impressed that some pupils have already handed theirs in and they look great.

Have a good weekend everyone, and I look forward to hearing all about it on Monday.

This week in P7

P7 were very excited to begin some basic coding with Scratch this week. We were learning what some of the blocks do and having a go at our own simple designs. There are some very creative people. We have learned how to move characters, make them grow and shrink, and disappear. We have also learned how to make a loop so that the actions can be repeated.

I really enjoyed watching my buddy in the P1 assembly about Chinese New Year . they were amazing!- Ben M

I really liked coding on scratch jr, it was my first time ever coding. It was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. – Ben Y

I liked doing Scratch jr on the iPads with Bobby and we made something fun and we made everyone laugh. – Charlie

This week we got the scripts for the school play and it is really fun practicing with people in the playground- Eleni

This week I really enjoyed football because it was our second week back and my team won every game and I scored one or two goals-Ruari

Please note that there are only 2 weeks left to work on your Robert Burns project. I know that many of you are almost finished – well done for being so organised.

We also have had to change our assembly date from 22 Feb to 3 May as we will be attending the ICHS School of Football festival on 22 Feb.

Highlights from P7

Katie, I really enjoyed football with Neil because I scored the most goals from all the weeks.

Jack this week when we did football with Neil I was alright because I scored a lot of goals and it was my favorite week.

Tyler,I loved football with Neil it was really enjoyable and I also liked math’s I understood it and think I am good at it/Fractions

Harry,I struggled with fractions it was hard but I think I’m getting it now.

Claudia, I liked the fractions, it was fun but I got stuck on a few questions.

Burns poetry, gymnastics, Scots language, fractions, number talks, lots of reading, first week back at football with Neil and not to mention the big reveal that the show this year will be Rock Bottom – what a busy week. So much learning has taken place – well done P7!

P7’s Great Start to the Year

We have had a really busy 2 weeks since coming back to school after the Christmas holidays. In PE we have been building up short routines, starting from a 2 person balance, moving on to a group balance and involving a mix of rolls and linking movements.

For our Scottish Focus we are working on Burns poetry and the Scots language. This year, 2019, is the UN Year of the Indigenous Language and so we have been considering what we think of a Scots language. The debate continues as there is no agreement in class of whether we are talking about a language, a dialect, or if it’s just the way we say things, or something else. Many of us have been told that we are just speaking slang. It’s a complicated thing to sort out. Nonetheless we have had lots of fun learning some Scots words.

Holly – As sports captain I have to make sure the PE cupboard is kept tidy but it is frustrating because every morning I check it is messy again and nothing is getting put back in the proper place.

Elise – It was fun making up the routines in gymnastics. I like doing the cartwheels over Claudia.

Ben M – I’m really proud of Calderwood winning the house points. Well done Calderwood you did great.

Lewis – I learned a new way to do fractions in maths.

Kaitlyn – I liked making the routines in PE because it was fun.

Remember, we are currently trying out doing our reading work in school rather than at home. Pupils will only be doing there reading at home if they have not got their books in school, or if they didn’t finish during the time they were given.

Football with Neil from the SFA starts again on Tuesday. Please remember to bring outdoor kit and warm layers.

Poems should be learned and ready to recite on Monday. Pupils will be heard saying their poems on Monday or Tuesday.

All pupils in P7 have been given a form to complete for their entry in the P7 yearbook.

Burns projects should be well under way now. I know many pupils are enjoying the process, coming in to tell me knew facts every morning – well done and keep going.

First week of December!

This week in P7…

Special mention to the netball team who played in the West Lothian League at ICHS on Wednesday afternoon. Many had never played in a competitive game before and were very nervous. They did not need to worry, they were a great team and supportive of each other. Everyone showed a great improvement in technique and skill and had a fantastic time. Mrs T and myself are very proud of them all.

Emmie – This week we done sports hall athletics on Thursday. I did the 2 by 1 relay with Kaitlyn, also the javelin and vertical jump. Our class also did a class race and we came 1st in the heat we were racing, and 2 more schools raced after us. I had a lot of fun at the sports hall athletics and I hope we get through to the West Lothian Finals.

Sophie M. – At basketball the school A team still didn’t lose a match. We are now in the A league at the top of the table.

Kaitlyn – I liked the sports hall athletics. I loved the whole class relay at the end.

Brandon – I liked the running relay at the athletics. I liked watching the other boys race to cheer them on.

Lewis – I liked getting to type the poems we wrote on the computer. I think I did well with my poem.

It’s all about Enterprise in P7

We have been so busy this week that there wasn’t time for pupils to share their learning, so I will do it for them.

This week has been all about their enterprise project. Firstly there was lots of maths to be done in order to find out where was the best place to buy the items we needed. We had to do a lot of calculations to work out how much we needed and how many packs we would have to buy. Then we had to take account of any special offers like buy one get one half price. Next we had to work out how much each item would cost and decide on a price.

We were originally going to make papier mache pots for our bulbs but this was proving to be too time consuming to dry them out and we ran out of time.

Planting the bulbs was great fun (and messy!). We learned lots about wrapping too, including how to curl ribbon. The cellophane was quite tricky to use as it kept sliding away, so we needed teamwork and perseverance to get the wrapping looking good.

Now all we have to do is wait until the spring to see the beautiful flowers.

Our pots are £3 each and we look forward to seeing you tomorrow at the Christmas Fair.

Lots of great learning in P7 this week. No one has even mentioned Shakespeare, but we have been learning about him for Book Week. We have all been amazed that he invented so many words we still use today; like elbow, fair-play and majestic, and many, many more!

Brandon – The maths that I did with Mrs Marron was fun in the 11 times table.

Erin – I am proud of myself because I saved two goals in football so now I know I am improving!

Sophie M. – I really liked football with Neil even though it was really cold. I also liked practicing for the sports hall athletics and I think I am getting quite good at the sprinting and standing high jump.

Elise – I really think I improved a lot in Maths because at the start of learning long division I didn’t understand it but now I can even find the remainder.

Harry – I think I improvised in football when my knee got really sore I kept on going.

If you have any newspapers please could you send them in to help with our enterprise next week. Thank you!

Another fast and furious week in P7, finishing on a high as we finished the West Lothian Sumdog competition in 5th place having also been the daily winners on Wednesday. Special mention to Sophie  who finished 3rd in the individual competition, getting 952 correct answers out of 1000 questions.

Arron – This week I really enjoyed the division questions because the one with remainders I found really easy and now that has helped me with my division sums on the big maths questions. In P.E. we ran from one wall to another and we done it twice and I got 15 seconds all 3 times I ran back.

I think that my spelling improved this week because we had harder words and I got all of them right – Jack

Lewis – this week improved on dividing at maths. This week it was fun it was a bit hard to understand at first but when you got it, it was easy.

Kaitlyn – I found the division in maths hard but I think that I will get better

Harry – I enjoyed maths it was really fun because I got to help other people.

Tyler – I enjoyed football because the fitness and agility bit of the session and the matches at the end are very fun!

Liam – I am really happy because Mrs Mill offered me a solo to Walking in the Air from The Snowman in choir!
