P1a Learning Reflection W/E 15th February

This week in Literacy we have been learning the sounds igh and ow. We used these sounds to word build, complete a worksheet or word search and play a roll and read game. We learned a new tricky word it is are. In writing, we wrote about who is in our back up team. In numeracy we have been learning about sharing. We were sharing the treasure equally and fairly. We were learning about what it means to make a fair share.  We spoke about our window into learning for this term and we looked at our new learning profiles. We completed a wellbeing web where we thought about each of the 8 indicators – Safe, healthy, achieving, respected, responsible, nurtured, active and included.  In art we have been colouring in with crayons our roses and we added in paint to complete them. We also created a heart by finger painting and we cut out a heart shaped poem for Valentine’s Day. These will be displayed in the corridor and photo will be put on the blog and twitter when they are dry. In RME we listened to and discussed the story of Noah’s Ark. During circle time this week we had our reflection time about Keep Connected. We drew our back up team on a T Shirt. In P.E this week we continued to play team games and dodgeball. Here are a few of the children’s reflections:

Leo: “I found number talks hard this week. We were having to solve number sentences.”

Murdo: “I found it tricky cutting out the heart shaped poem.”

Emma: “I learned about the story of Noah’s Ark. There was a flood and the boat floated on the water.”

This week P1 have been learning long vowel sounds. We have learned the sounds ay and ee. We used these sounds to make words on our magnetic boards, taught ted, made real or nonsense words and wrote ay and ee words on a worksheet. We held a sentence in our heads then wrote it down. In writing we worked in pairs to write acrostic poems about winter. In Maths this week we have been learning to read o clock and half past times on both analogue and digital clocks. In art we were starting to recreate Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s iconic rose picture. In science we were looking at what we use water for and the water cycle. In P.E we were learning about team work. We were split into four teams and we had to collect beanbags and toys. The winning team was the team that collected the most toys and bean bags. Here are a few of the children’s reflections:

Ch: “I found it hard trying to draw the rose.”

Ziva: “I enjoyed learning the ee sound and doing the worksheet.”

Rory: “I found it hard to copy the rose design.”

Leighton: “I found it a bit tricky drawing the rose.”

P1a Learning Reflection W/E 1st February

Friday again! Primary 1 have been working so hard. In science we have been learning about ice melting. We also enjoyed our workshop from Generation Science called Ready Teddy Go! where we learned about the different forces such as friction. We have been learning about the Chinese New Year and preparing for our assembly. We had to learn lines and a song. Thank you for coming to see our assembly. In maths we have been continuing to learn about time. We have learned the types of clock and now know what an analogue clock and digital clock is. We can name hands on an analogue clock. They are called the minute and hour hands. We know that when the minute hand is at the 12 then it is an o clock time. In literacy we have been practising our sounds and tricky words. In writing we wrote a describing sentence about Greyfriars Bobby. In P.E. we were making sequences using 2 shapes, a jump, a balance and a roll. Here are a few of the children’s reflections:
Lois: “I found it hard writing my sentence about Greyfriars Bobby.”
Ch: “I enjoyed our assembly about the Chinese New Year.”
Ziva: ” I enjoyed the Ready Teddy Go workshop and learning about forces.”
Sam: “Like Ziva I enjoyed the Ready Teddy Go workshop.”

We also said our poems to the class. In maths we have been exploring the months of year and the seasons. We drew pictures of the different seasons and discussed each one. We had to sequence the months of the year correctly. In P.E we are still working on gymnastics. We continued working on our different shapes and learned how to do two types of rolls. In Science, we went out in the garden and picked up things from nature. When we got into class we put the things we had picked up in a cup and filled the cup with water and placed it in the freezer. Cleaning your teeth maun be a fyke!
What sort of besom do ye hae

The crocodile said, “Nane ava.
I never brush my teeth at aa!
A wee bird redds them up, ye see,
And saves me monie a dentist’s fee.”

NESSIE by J K Annand

Nessie the Loch Ness Monster
Wad seem to be gey blate,
And doesna like the scientist chiels

But gif ye want to see her
Pretend ye dinna care,
Keek oot the corner o your ee –
Ye’ll see her soomin there.

She’ll wiggle-humphie-waggle,
She’ll goggle wi her een,
Syne disappear ablow the loch
