P1M Learning Reflection W/E 19th January

P1M have had another busy week learning. We have learned two new sounds y and w in literacy. In numeracy we were continuing to practice take away. We also learned about Greyfriars Bobby and what made him special. The children loved drawing a picture of him! The children absolutely loved P.E with Mr Stewart this week as they were introduced to Gymnastics and had a shot on the large equipment. Here are some of the children’s highlights from this week:

Alanice: I enjoyed swinging on the ropes in the gym.

Aiden: I enjoyed using the equipment. I like jumping and crawling through the tunnel.

Cali: I enjoyed drawing pictures of Nessie and Greyfriars Bobby.

Calum: I enjoyed swinging, climbing and jumping in the gym.

Safia: I enjoyed word building words with our new sounds y and w.

Mathew: I enjoyed playing games that helped me learn how to take away.

Pola: I liked climbing on the frame in the gym hall.

Calum: I enjoyed learning the new sound ‘v’ and making words with the new sound.

Safia: I enjoyed playing hop off, which helped me learn about take away as I had to take some bears off the bus.

Lewis: I enjoyed French and learning how to say my age in French.

Aiden: I enjoyed having a circle time and reflecting on  my learning from the week.

P1M Burns Poetry Competition

Happy New Year. Hope you all had a lovely holiday. As part of our Robert Burns Celebrations we are running a poetry competition in school. A selection of children from each class will be chosen to perform their poem to the judges. Could you help your child to choose either The Crocodile by JK Annand or Nessie by JK Annand and practice their choice of poem. Their poems will be heard in class the week beginning 22nd January. The children have brought their poems home today. Here is a link to a copy of both poems:

P1M’s busy week.

In Primary 1M we have had yet another busy week. We have performed our nativity to the whole school and our parents twice as well as that we have been practicing our sounds and working hard on mastering the ‘th’ sound. This is tricky but if we persevere we will get there. We are continuing to develop our mathematical language through number talks. We also enjoyed some yoga in class on Thursday. Here are a couple of pictures of us in our Nativity costumes:

The Wriggly Nativity

Last week saw Primary 1K, Primary 1M and Primary 2 perform our Wriggly Nativity three times, first of all on the Monday for the whole school then the Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning for our parents. The children did a fabulous job of telling the Christmas story. Miss Maclachlan, Ms King, Miss Whigham and Mrs Clyne are very proud of the children. We hope you enjoyed their performances.

A busy couple of weeks for P1M

P1M have had a busy couple of weeks. Last week was book week and the children loved creating our Elmer display. We spent time colouring our very own Elmer then everyone coloured in a patch for the background. We also enjoyed reading a new story called Gorilla Loves Vanilla. The story included lots of wacky ice cream flavours such as worms. We loved creating our own flavours such as jam and sausages. We also learned about rhyming words. As Saturday was our Christmas fair we created our very own ornaments to hang on our Christmas trees. Both Primary 1 and Primary 2 have been busy rehearsing our nativity and look forward to performing this for you next week on Tuesday 12th December at 2.30pm and Wednesday 13th December at 10am. Here are a few pictures from our busy weeks:

P1M Number Talks

Primary 1 have been learning about and enjoying Number Talks. They have explored different dot patterns of five and six. They shared with the rest of the class their strategy for knowing how there was five or six dots. The children enjoy using hand signals of a closed fist for thinking, a thumbs up if they have a strategy and lastly a thumbs up, little finger up if they agree with someone else’s strategy. After our number talks the children have been exploring different dot patterns in a ten frame with a partner. Here are some photos of the children.
