We write a cartoon storyboard about the Lighthouse Keeper’s week. We have been practising our Mini-beast assembly. We have shown what we know about halves and quarters and enjoyed working with a partner to find halves and quarters of numbers. Holly enjoyed improving her tennis skills in P.E. We practised how to serve the ball. We all loved the singing games that we did with Mrs Curle from the National Youth Choir. It was great to have so many visitors to our Reading PATPAL. We enjoyed sharing our learning.

P1a Weekly Learning Reflection W/E 24th May
This week in Literacy P1a have learned the ‘ur’ sound and the tricky word some. We made words such as burn, hurt, purse, nurse etc. We played roll and read, Snakes and Ladders and tell ted. In Maths this week we have been continuing to explore measurement. We looked at measuring weight using a pan balance and measuring capacity of containers using words such as half full, full and empty. For IDL we went on a walk around the school grounds looking for signs of nature and created a tally chart of the things we saw such as flowers, birds etc. We also looked at living, non-living and never lived objects. In P.E we continued to practise our skills in Tennis. We used a ball to practise catching and then a racquet to push the ball to a partner. On Thursday we had music again with Mrs Curle. We played rhyming games whilst singing. Some of us got the opportunity to play claves or a drum during one of the games. We had our star of the week circle time and our new star of the week is Ayden. Here are a few of the children’s reflections:
Isaac: “I enjoyed learning the tricky word some.”
Ayden: “I enjoyed assembly remembering the school values.”
Ziva: “I enjoyed exploring measurement.”
Ch: “I enjoyed Mrs Mill’s assembly about respect.”

They also had a simulator which you are a construction worker working a digger. They also had CPR dummy’s and breathing apparatus’s. We could make lemonade and draw candy shops. We also had a visitor today. She told us all about her job as a dresser and her childhood. She told us what plays she wanted to do and showed us some videos about it. She also showed us her art and told us about the actors she met. We had a very fun week.
P1b Learning Reflection for W/E 24.5.19
In numeracy this week P1 have been exploring lighter and heavier, using the pan balance scales. They weighed different things around the class and are able to talk about how the balance scales work. Our phonics sound this week was ur as in nurse. In health and wellbeing the children are continuing to develop their tennis and athletics skills.
Austin – I liked using the balance scales, my shoe weighs 48 cubes. The arrow was in the middle and the pans were level that’s how I know.
Roshan – I liked learning about the life cycle of a butterfly. 1st it’s an egg, 2nd it’s a caterpillar. Then it’s a pupa it builds a cocoon, 4th is was a butterfly .
Christian – I liked the assembly it was about high fives!
Hiba – I liked making the life cycles first there was an egg then a caterpillar, third it is a pupa then it is a butterfly.
Subhan – I liked playing tennis we were doing side stepping.
Alister – I liked the tennis because we had the racquets and we put the ball in the middle and you had to push it to your partner.
Solomia – I liked making the butterflies.
Lewis – I liked doing the gym outside, we were skipping it was hard to skip forward, I can do it backwards!
Kaelan – I liked the life cycle of the butterfly. Well it goes into an egg first and then it hatches into a caterpillar, it eats the egg first then it eats a leaf. Then it builds a chrysalis and then a butterfly comes out. It is a metamorphosis.
Nicholas – I learned the life cycle of a butterfly. First it’s an egg, then it’s a caterpillar, then it is the pupa. Then it’s a butterfly.
Teria –I like making ten in number talks. With 8+6+2, you can solve it by adding 2 and 8 to make 10 then add the 6 to make 16.
Sushanth – I got a certificate for writing a good sentence in my maths journal.
Charley – I liked making 10. 2+5+8 you can make a friend of 10 by doing 2+8 = 10 plus 5 more =15
Poppy – I like doing PE on the field. I liked the race when we were warming up cause each time I won. I like doing sports outside.
P2 trip to Amazonia!
Primary 2 took a walk on the wild side this week when we visited ‘Amazonia’ as part of our science topic about mini beasts. We saw lots of exotic animals – monkeys, parrots, frogs, tarantulas, butterflies and more! We enjoyed watching the amazing leaf cutter ants hard at work and holding Milkshake the snake during our animal handling session!
P1b Learning Reflection for W/E 17.5.19
In P1 this week we have been busy measuring using non-standard units. In number talks we have been making 10’s to simplify a number problem. We have been learning the sounds aw as in jaw and magic E for the sound ‘are’ as in care and share. We have started to learn tennis skills in PE this week our focus was agility, balance and co-ordination. The children enjoyed taking part in an Authors Live event with Emily MacKenzie who read ‘There’s Broccoli in my Ice Cream’. The children drew along with Emily to create their own Granville pictures. P1 also enjoyed a NYCOS singing workshop this week with Mrs Curle, we are very lucky as she is coming back to do 2 more singing workshops with us.
Ms King x
Nicholas – making tens in number talks.
Alister – I enjoyed measuring with the blocks. We measured the desk, table and chair. The desk was 37 blocks long.
Roshan – I liked doing number talks, we were making 10. To solve the sum instead of doing 2+5+8, I switched the 8 and 5 around to make 2+8=10 then I added on the 5 to make 15.
Austin – I liked drawing the dog from the story on authors live.
Kaelan – I liked writing the letter to Mrs Mill. You needed to write who it was for and who it is from and the date.
Subhan – I like measuring the footprints. We got different numbers because we used different things to measure with. It’s best to measure using the same thing.
Teria – I enjoyed the froggy music. I was singing and you had to count the frog jumps, I made it jump to Lois in 4 jumps. I liked the number talks, we had to make 10 so instead of doing 6 + 7 + 4 you do 6 plus 4 first to make 10 then you add the 7 to make 17. I liked the assembly some children couldn’t go to school.
James – I liked learning the new sound ‘are’ the magic E switches the a to an A sound. Care and share have the ‘are’ sound.
Hiba – I liked playing tennis. We balanced the ball on the tennis racquet.
Charley – I liked tennis this week.
Solomia – I liked tennis. We were balancing the ball and we passed to another child, my partner was Hiba.
Poppy – I liked doing number talks this week. Instead of doing 9+ 3+ 1 you can turn the 1 and 3 around to make 9+ 1=10 then add on the 3 to make 13.
Sushanth – I liked doing measuring, so I got medium footprint it was 10 bricks long the big one was 18 bricks long.
Christian – I liked the assembly, singing songs.
