Word Detectives in P3B

Our new phonics sound in Literacy this week is the “sh” sound. This morning, we had the opportunity to be word detectives to help us spell “sh” words. We worked with our partner to spell “sh” words using the letters written on the sticky notes. We challenged ourselves and some of even used extra letters to extend our words.

 

We were also very excited to work in randomised groups for the first time. This means we didn’t choose our partner and Miss Marra didn’t choose our partner either. All our names are in a tub, and we picked a name card out. The name on the card was our partner. It was exciting to have a surprise when we found out who we were going to be working with. We were all engaged in our learning and on task. Miss Marra was very proud of us all.

Maths Week in P3B

 

We had a very busy week in P3B. It was Maths Week and we were excited to find another surprise in our mystery box. This time, we opened our box to find some 2D shapes. This started a discussion about the names of the shapes and we started discussing their properties.

 

We then watched a video of a shape story which led to another discussion about the features of 2D and 3D shapes. Then we took part in four stations over several days and we really enjoyed our learning. We had the opportunity to consolidate addition and subtraction by playing Sumdog on the ipads. We are developing our independence logging in using our usernames and passwords. We also practised adding coins at another station. We used the till, labels and money to set up a “shop” to consolidate adding coins to make different amounts of money.

The other two stations involved exploring 2D and 3D shapes. We used 2D shapes to make pictures and we also used the shape construction to make 3D models. This initiated discussion about all the different shapes we used.

We also delivered our class assembly this week. It was amazing and we got so many compliments from other children and adults in the school. Miss Marra is very proud of us. We all read fluently and with confidence. We organised everything ourselves before the assembly started and we remembered when to say our parts. We also sat so quietly during the assembly to show respect towards the person who was speaking. One of our favourite parts was performing when I Grow Up from Matilda the Musical. We sang so well and used fantastic facial expressions. We got extra play as a special treat for all our hard work. Thank you to Miss Baldacci for helping us with the sound.

Fantastic First Week in Primary 3B

We had a great first week back in Primary 3B! Everyone arrived on Tuesday morning ready to learn and excited to see our friends.

I have been so impressed with the listening skills in our class in our first week and you have already been working so hard. Mrs Stewart even popped in during Smart Start because she noticed you were all working hard and on task! We started off the week today with Active Spelling and you were all excited to use your brand new Literacy jotters. During our first week, you had many great conversations to share your thoughts, feelings and ideas about your new class.

Here are some of the conversations I observed from you during your first week in Primary 3.

A Busy Week for P5/4

In P5/4, we have had a very busy week with all our learning. On Thursday, it was World Book Day and we celebrated by starting the day with “Relax and Read.” Our favourite thing about this is choosing where in the classroom we would like to read (as long as we choose a safe place.) As you will see from our photos, we chose some interesting places to enjoy a book.

We have been learning how to see ourselves as readers and we know that we enjoy reading more when we get to choose books we like. One of the highlights of our week was our first visit to the library. Unfortunately, Miss Marra forgot to pictures as she was enjoying it so much too. Caitlin proudly cut the ribbon and we were so excited to enjoy our new space. It was hard to choose from so many comfortable and exciting places to read. The choice of books was amazing too. Some of us even chose to read some nostalgic books from when we were younger. One of our favourites was Stick Man and Elmer. We can’t wait to go back for our next visit.

Another highlight in our learning this week was when we engaged in Drama to clarify our understanding of a text. In class, we have been reading the Harry Potter series as our class novels. We are currently reading Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. We engaged in a “Hot Seat” learning activity in which we chose to be in role as a character from the series and everyone had to ask us questions. Miss Marra modelled our learning first by being “in role” as Draco Malfoy which everyone found hilarious. Our Drama skills were very impressive and we used our knowledge of our chosen character well to engage in this learning activity.

We engage in Mental Maths daily and we have been working hard on using division to solve problems. We are developing our confidence using the “Bus Stop Method” and this is helping us apply our knowledge to word problems.

Our new Maths Topic is “Time.” We started our topic by having a great class discussion about why we need to learn to tell the time. We use time so much in our daily lives! We have been practising some of the different times we already know e.g. o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to. We engage in outdoor Maths and Numeracy every Thursday, and this week we practised telling the time in the playground. Struan did the honours, drawing a large analogue clock with our chalk. We then practised different times with some of us representing the hands. We had to jump to the correct number and we were able to talk about why this was the correct number, using the Numeracy skills we know and our prior knowledge of time. Our next step is to move on to five minute intervals.

P5, P5/4 and P4 Fischy Music

We were lucky to have the opportunity to take part in a Fischy Music session last week. Everyone was so excited to see the people from Fischy Music who we have seen so many times on screen in Assemblies! We  sang songs that we know so well and we learned a few new songs too. One of the songs reminded us of the importance of friendship and the qualities that make a good friend.

We really enjoyed our learning and Miss Cameron, Miss Beattie and Miss Marra certainly spotted some future performers among us. We are looking forward to using some of the new songs we learned to support our learning in class.

Thank You Primary 2A

Well done to everyone for all your hard work during remote learning. You have all put in so much effort to your learning and I continue to be impressed with all your amazing work every day. It is great that we were able to continue with our learning that we would have been doing in school and it has been amazing to see so much creativity. I am looking forward to continuing our learning journey when we go back to school on Monday.

Thank you also to all the parents and carers for your support on Seesaw. Your children wouldn’t have been so successful without your continued support and patience.

Another Great Week of Home Learning in P2A

Dear parents/carers,

What a fantastic week this has been! We have had lots of snow but there has still been so much effort with our home learning. In Literacy, we have been learning magic e words with an o and we have been learning to find information in a text in Reading Comprehension. I have been so impressed with your thoughtful answers to the inference questions too. You worked super hard in Writing this week and you wrote the ending to your imaginative stories. Well done for working hard to use capital letters, finger spaces, full stops and connectives.

 

In Numeracy, we learned more about fractions and making equal groups to divide by 4. There have been some amazing photos of your equal groups uploaded to Seesaw to show how hard you are working. There has been so much creativity and well done to everyone who has been working on the remote learning grid tasks too. Jaysiel deserves a mention for her very expressive performance of “Chokey Chant” from Matilda the Musical which was one of your Drama tasks on the grid.

 

Harris has been doing some fantastic word building to practise spelling magic e with an o. Well done for working so hard to read and write your words Harris:)

Amazing Learning in Primary 2A

 

 

Wow! What an amazing week of learning we have had. Well done for all your hard work this week as always. I am so proud of all your efforts and your positive attitude towards your learning. This week, we have been learning to read and write magic e words with an i and we have also been working hard on Reading Comprehension. In Writing, we have been learning to write the midde of a story, following on from our introductions from last wek. Your stories are looking fantastic so far! I can’t wait to read your endings. In Numeracy, we have been working hard in number talks and we have been learning about fractions this week. You found some great examples of halves and quarters at home.

Jaysiel wrote a fantastic middle to her imaginative story with capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. She also used connectives and wrote great descriptions. Well done Jaysiel:)

 

Max worked hard to calculate the missing addends in Numeracy this week. He did a great job counting on to work out the answers. Well done for working hard on this Max and for creating some of your own missing addend problems.

 

Ollie worked hard on this magic e roll, write and read task. You worked hard Ollie and you managed to write and read some new magic e words too. Well done!

 

This is Evie’s creative approach to this week’s STEM challenge. It has been amazing seeing everyone working so hard to be creative with these challenges every week. This week, we had to build a bridge using construction or any other materials at home. Well done for thinking outside the box Evie! It looks like your bridge was definitely strong enough for Nala to stand on. Fantastic work!

Amazing Hard Work in P2A

Well done for all your hard work again this week. You are all putting so much effort into your learning and I am so impressed. Thank you to everyone who has been supporting your child at home too. This is really appreciated.

 

We have been working so hard this week in Literacy, Numeracy, Health and Wellbeing and also on our remote learning grid activities. Our new sound this week was magic e with an everyone worked hard to practise reading and writing their words. In Writing, we wrote an introduction to an imaginative story and I was proud of everyone’s efforts with this. Our remote learning grid this week focused on a “Scotland” theme for “Scottish Week.” Here are some excellent examples of learning below.

 

Alex worked hard to practise spelling magic e words with his Lego. Well done for working so hard. I am very impressed with your amazing work with the Lego bricks:)

 

Everyone has worked so hard on writing an introduction to a story this week. Well done everyone:) This is Isabella’s introduction. She used capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. You also may spot a connective in her sentences. Fantastic work Isabella:)

 

Max worked really hard to divide by 3 this week and he applied his learning really well to pencil tasks. Well done for working so hard on this Max:)

 

Jasmine worked so hard to sequence these numbers in order from smallest to largest. Well done for you hard work Jasmine:) You sequenced all the numbers in the correct order.

P2A Remote Learning

You have been working so hard on your learning at home Primary 2A! I have been so impressed with your hard work on Seesaw and in class this week. In Literacy, we have been learning to read and write soft g words. You all worked so hard to write a fantastic description of a family member this week. I saw lots of brilliant connectives which was our Success Criteria challenge. Next week we are going to begin writing an imaginative story.

In Numeracy we have been learning to make equal groups. You all know this means you were dividing and this week, we have been learning to divide by 2. You used concrete materials at home to practise sharing equally and I was impressed with how hard you all worked on this task. We have also continued with our number talks too.

I am glad so many of you asked for more French target tasks and you all put in so much effort to your French learning this week. I have loved seeing everyone being so creative in your learning. Here are some examples of your amazing work on Seesaw.

Alex worked really hard to build a house for the Three Little Pigs. This was Mrs Beattie’s STEM challenge this week. Super effort Alex!

 

Isla used her nail varnish collection to spell soft g words. I love her creativity and she has a very impresive collection. Super spelling Isla:)

 

Harry read this book himself at home this week. I am very proud that you were practising your reading Harry and choosing to read a book for enjoyment:)

Jaysiel worked hard to sequence numbers from smallest to largest in Numeracy. This was a great challenge and you could order all the numbers in the correct order. Well done:)
