Maths Week in P3B

We had a very busy week in P3B. It was Maths Week and we were excited to find another surprise in our mystery box. This time, we opened our box to find some 2D shapes. This started a discussion about the names of the shapes and we started discussing their properties.

We then watched a video of a shape story which led to another discussion about the features of 2D and 3D shapes. Then we took part in four stations over several days and we really enjoyed our learning. We had the opportunity to consolidate addition and subtraction by playing Sumdog on the ipads. We are developing our independence logging in using our usernames and passwords. We also practised adding coins at another station. We used the till, labels and money to set up a “shop” to consolidate adding coins to make different amounts of money.

The other two stations involved exploring 2D and 3D shapes. We used 2D shapes to make pictures and we also used the shape construction to make 3D models. This initiated discussion about all the different shapes we used.

“We are making a house and we’re using rectangles and squares.”  Emmi and Sofia

“I didn’t make a picture, I traced the shapes. I used triangles, squares and rectangles. I learned the name of a new shape too. I learned the word rhombus.”   Sophie B

“I made £3.5o with 50p coins.” Struan

“I love Sumdog. The questions are getting harder and it’s a good challenge.” Lucas

We also delivered our class assembly this week. It was amazing and we got so many compliments from other children and adults in the school. Miss Marra is very proud of us. We all read fluently and with confidence. We organised everything ourselves before the assembly started and we remembered when to say our parts. We also sat so quietly during the assembly to show respect towards the person who was speaking. One of our favourite parts was performing when I Grow Up from Matilda the Musical. We sang so well and used fantastic facial expressions. We got extra play as a special treat for all our hard work. Thank you to Miss Baldacci for helping us with the sound.

Fantastic First Week in Primary 3B

We had a great first week back in Primary 3B! Everyone arrived on Tuesday morning ready to learn and excited to see our friends.

I have been so impressed with the listening skills in our class in our first week and you have already been working so hard. Mrs Stewart even popped in during Smart Start because she noticed you were all working hard and on task! We started off the week today with Active Spelling and you were all excited to use your brand new Literacy jotters. During our first week, you had many great conversations to share your thoughts, feelings and ideas about your new class.

Here are some of the conversations I observed from you during your first week in Primary 3.

I like being in this class.     Ava

We are so lucky because we get marbles and pom poms in our class.      Hannah

We are looking forward to sharing our learning with some photos at the end of the week. Keep working hard Primary 3!

Our first week in P3a

We have had lots of fun exploring our new classroom and learning our new routines.  We have worked together to add within 20, find words in a Boggle board and started our Free Writing Friday – and that is just during our Smart Starts when we wake up our brains!
We have thought about how we can be kind to others and help ‘fill their bucket’.  We are looking forward to learning lots of new things together.

This term our gym days will be on a Monday & Wednesday. On these days pupils can wear gym clothes in our school colours – black, yellow or white.

Literacy in P5/4

In P5/4, we have been getting ready to recite our Scottish poems. We have been working hard to deconstruct the poems to help us learn some new words in Scot’s language and we had great time trying to read them out loud. We wrote down the meaning of Scottish words we found in the poems and used ipads and laptops to help us. We also did the same learning activity with “The Jeely Piece Song” and it was interesting to find out how many words we could remember.

We are excited to recite our Scottish poems in class this week. If we work hard to practise we may be chosen to represent our class at our Scottish Assembly on Teams.

Whole School ‘Nativity Assembly’

This morning we held our usual virtual Assembly on TEAMS, however today’s assembly was very different as it was our first Nativity Assembly which was led by the pupils of East Calder Primary School. The Christmas Story was told by pupils from every class and we think that our P1-7 pupils did a fantastic job! You all learned your parts so well and spoke clearly and confidently – great job everyone!!!

We love P2A!
