P7/6 Sky Academy

P7/6 had the opportunity to go to Sky Academy and create our own news story all about our society. We decided to discuss how litter is impacting our society as this links well to our Ethical Living topic this term.

We had to work to Sky Academy’s 3 skills; collaboration, communication and creativity. We enjoyed using those skills and are very proud of our final video!

Our Big Cosy Read!

At East Calder Primary  we are proud of our Silver  Reading Schools Award.

We love special events where we can enjoy books and reading, and that also give us  the opportunity to have fun with others.

On Friday to celebrate World Book Day we all enjoyed a BIG Cosy Read. It was great fun relaxing and listening to someone reading, or just having time to look at a book with a friend.

There was a huge variety of super squishies, cushions and cuddly toys in each class as everyone snuggled up to share a story.

We hope everyone enjoyed this event ..and remember.. keep reading!

Numeracy in P7/6

We have recently started looking at length and measure as our numeracy topic. We started exploring measuring using non standard units such as whiteboard pens, paperclips and glue to measure objects around the classroom.

We discussed our estimation skills and how to measure accurately. Our estimations gradually became more and more accurate!

We decided to use our wingspan to estimate and measure things around and outside our school!

This week in P2

We continue to look at money and measuring in maths. We have started to look more at fractions and learn about halves and quarters. In writing we began looking at procedure texts last week so we created our own cat sock puppets following the steps of the procedure. We love practising our handwriting on the tables to help us with the formation of our letters. As it has been World Book Day this week we took part in a draw along with the author Emily Mackenzie who write ‘There’s broccoli in my ice cream!’. We have also enjoyed our big, cosy read today in our pyjamas.
