Book Week Scotland P1-3 Events

The Scottish Book Trust is a national charity that believes books, reading and writing have the power to change lives. Over the last 25 years they have  gifted books to Primary 1, 2 and 3 pupils in all Scottish Primary schools.

P2a/ P2/1    Tuesday 14th November -2pm in our school library followed by sharing the learning in your child’s class.

P1a/P1b       Wednesday 15th November – 2.20pm  until 3.00pm (pupils  will be dismissed from class)

We hope you can join us to share a story and a snack.

Happy reading everyone!

Lego Club

A great time was had by all at the first session of Lego Club. We have been very lucky to acquire 10 brand new Lego sets. Pupils worked in their choice of individual, pairs or threes. They used their problem solving, communication and collaboration skills to build the new models. Some chose to free build from the huge box of blocks in the class. Roll on next week when they get the chance to do it all again!

P7/6 STEM Challenge

P7/6 did a spooky STEM challenge linked to our learning of fractions, they all followed the instructions but had very different outcomes! We enjoyed celebrating the different interpretations people had, as there was no “correct” answer to the task.

Fire Safety P7,P7/6 & P6

The P6 and P7 pupils were very lucky to get a visit form the Livingston Fire Department. We discussed safety surrounding bonfire night and looked at all the different equipment in the Fire Truck and even got a shot of the hose! We are very grateful to the fire department for taking time out of their day to teach us.

Primary 1

This week Primary 1 were very lucky to welcome Miss Ross and Mrs Ogilvie who will be working with us for a further four weeks.

We continue to learn new sounds and have added to Seesaw the second set of sounds; c, k, e, r, h, m, d.  This will be homework next week.  We now know lots of sounds and we are beginning to blend them together to build and read small words.

This week we introduced Word Boost, a programme to increase our vocabulary.  A ‘postcard’ was sent home on Thursday so the children can practise using these boost words.

Please remember to return reading books on a Thursday so they are ready for a different group of children to read on Monday.

This week in P2

Another very busy week in P2. This week we are finishing off our addition and subtraction learning and we are beginning to look at multiplication. We have been using loop cards working in partners to solve problems in maths. We looked at shapes in the real world and discussed what they might be. We enjoy our daily number talk as it promotes a lot of discussion. We have also been doing a lot of Sumdog in class as part of maths lessons and using our QR codes to choose a maths game to practise.
We have had fun creating our own pointillism pumpkins this week as well and learning about this style of art.

P3 Learning

This week we have been learning about writing questions.  We had to try to write question marks on the table.  They are quite a difficult shape!  Then with our random partner we thought of a question and wrote it on the desk.  We shared our questions and then tried to write two more.  Someone wrote a sentence by mistake but as a class we were able to turn it into a question by changing some of the words.  Again we shared our questions.  As a class we realised that most of the questions began with the same words.  We will continue working on questions next week.

We continued our work on money by completing lots of different activities from recognising coins to giving correct coins to £10.00.
