It has been a busy week back in P2 after the holidays. We had a lovely chat all about our holidays and got straight back into our learning again. Pupils were very keen to get back to learning about our Space project and we were looking at the International Space Station this week. We have continued looking at division in numeracy and begun looking at symmetry and measuring in maths. We enjoyed working with random partners to talk about our writing on information reports.
P2/1
It’s been a busy week back to school in P2/1. We have been using numicon to investigate number bonds and have had fun listening to the months of the year song in maths.
We are continuing to build and blend letters to read words in our reading books and have been practising Fry’s words along with our handwriting.
This week we listened to information about two planets: Jupiter and Saturn. We enjoyed watching The Space Explorers on CBeebies and could tell the class some facts we learned.
Primary 1
Primary 1 really enjoyed end of term activities this week. We made decorations and placemats for our party.
On Thursday we enjoyed a Movie and our Christmas Party. We played party games, danced and snacked! We had a special visitor come to our party too.

This week in P2
It has been a very busy couple of weeks in P2 with lots of activities going on. We have been looking at division through sharing using playdoh to help us. We have had a visit from an author to read some of his books to us as well. We started looking at measuring and measured the elves using a ruler and then put them into height order. We have also been learning how to say a festive phrase in different languages as well. We all very much enjoyed our Christmas party and had lots of fun and snacks.We hope you all have a lovely holiday and we will see you again in January. 
Language Learning Across the School
Our 1+2 Languages ambassadors have done a great job of promoting languages this term across the school. They suggested having a Languages ‘Advent Calendar’ where every day in December classes would learn how to say ‘Merry Christmas’ in a different language. All of our pupils really loved doing this and it gave them a chance to share the different languages spoken at home by many of our children and their families. We also learned a lot about different cultures and customs across the world at this time of year. Here are some children from Mrs Turner’s class enjoying their daily dose of languages!
Primary 4 Party
Yesterday Primary 4 pupils took part in their Christmas party. We had games, dancing and lots of delicious snacks. We had a lovely morning all together.
Primary 1
Primary 1 have had a very exciting week. As well as continuing to learn new sounds, stretching out words to help us write words and learning and playing with 2D shapes, we had a visit from a local author and performed our Nativity Play!
When the author visited us we listened to 3 stories and had the opportunity to ask lots of questions.
On Thursday we performed our nativity; Baarmy Bethlehem to the whole school. Our first audience! Then today was our show. We loved being on the stage!
Five Sisters Zoo for The Hive
Eoin and Dan have had a lovely few weeks at the Five Sisters Zoo. We saw lots of animals, and even got to feed some. We have learned a lot about the animals and their habitats.
Santa Letters in The Hive
The Hive children have been getting very excited about Christmas. Our Writing lesson was writing a letter to Santa. We used the Smyths toy magazine for inspiration and ideas. Fingers crossed we get what we asked for!!
Social Studies in P6
As we complete our Social Studies context on Natural Disasters this seemed a good opportunity to share some of our displays and the fantastic work we did across the curriculum linking to this particular topic. We linked our Literacy by creating a diary entry where we used the features of the genre. We worked on our up scaled vocabulary choices so the reader could really imagine being immersed in our chosen disaster! We also wrote explanations, describing how and why different disasters happen.
As you can see we also linked our learning to our ICT outcomes by creating a PowerPoint at the start of our context highlighting what we already knew about Natural Disasters and how we would like to take our learning forward, putting the class at the centre of their learning and demonstrating pupil agency, ownership of the context. Finally, we also looked at our outcomes for Art when completing pencil drawings of a particular disaster, paying particular attention to detail.
As well as linking different curriculum outcomes to our context we were also always mindful to remember our skillset, highlighting which ones linked most closely to a particular task.
