Yesterday the Lego Club met for the first time. We enjoyed working in small groups to build our model. We had to use our concentration skills to work out the instructions and find the correct pieces. Only one build was finished so the other completed models will be photographed next week. Then we get to start on a different build.

P3a Numeracy
Each week we take part in lots of different Numeracy activities to help us develop our skills. We share our strategies and help each other try them out. This week in our Number of the Day task we had to work out sums with the answer 39. We came up with addition subtraction, multiplication and someone even came up with a sum involving division.

Rainforest
What a fabulous display of learning outside the Primary 5 classroom. So much creativity and a display of how much they have learned so far.
Well done P5 – very impressive!
House Group Winners – Term 1
Well done to all the pupils in Langton House! You were the house group winners for Term 1 – with a fabulous 246 house points!
To celebrate your achievement, you were treated to an ‘Enjoy-a-ball’ session with your house group peers. By the sounds coming from the hall and the photos, it sounds like you all enjoyed it and had lots of fun 🙂
Primary 5 Rainforests
We had some absolutely amazing responses to our Rainforest Challenge in Primary 5. Pupils were asked to create a 3D model of a rainforest scene, showing the 4 layers and some of the creatures who live there. As you can see, we had some truly amazing creations – so much ingenuity and imagination!
They currently have pride of place outside our classroom and so many people have commented on how good they are- a big thank you to all who took up the challenge, well done on your amazing creativity!
Celebrating Creativity
It has been a creative first term, P7A have continued to share their ideas and show inquisitiveness throughout the term -across all curricular areas.
Here is a snapshot of us in action. We have created many dynamic and informative CapCuts to showcase our learning; we even decided to make a working numeracy wall, a place where we can upload our digital learning and we can easily access this through a QR code.
The pupils have been building their skills throughout the term, working on team work and communication, this was demonstrated well through their innovative work in coding; using Micro:bits and Scratch.

P7B – Rangers visit
Primary 7B had a visit from the rangers this week who helped educate us on the importance of our environment. We discussed how we used shared spaces safely and respectfully and how to take care of the space we use. We looked at a birds eye view map of East Calder to practise coordination skills by identifying houses, the school and areas we are familiar with and discussed the difference between public and private land.
We went outside to do an obstacle where we practised directional language and working as a team.
Thank you to the Rangers for helping us appreciate and learn about our surroundings!
Maths Week – P7
Last week we celebrated maths week and displayed our love of maths through different tasks. We kicked off maths week with maths through stories and read “Sir Cumference and the Dragon of Pi” This interesting story led to productive conversation on the key properties of a circle. We used language such as radius, diameter, circumference and measure/measurement. The class then set off on a task – to draw a perfect circle with only chalk, string and a metre stick. They used discussion skills and problem solving to work out the radius and diameter – and for one group the circumference – of a circle. The Primary 7 classes worked together for this task which gave us new perspectives and insight.
We looked at Parabolic curves to see how we could create a curve only using straight lines. The class were given minimal instructions and told to see what they could achieve. P7A created a display from their parabolic curves to discuss and share their learning.
Happy Maths Week!
