Primary 1

This week Primary 1 have been very busy learning about measure.  We used a balance scale and have been using the words heavier and lighter to describe the objects we weighed.  We then estimated what we thought some classroom items might weigh then recorded how many cubes it took to make the scale balance.  We used measuring cups to make reindeer food to sell tomorrow at the Christmas Fayre.

In Literacy we have been learning the new sound ‘j’.  Some of us have been identifying and writing beginning sounds and others have been writing small words; stretching out the words to write the beginning, ending and middle sound.

We have started going onto the stage to practise our nativity and were very excited when the tickets went home!

We have always been discussing how to stay safe near roads and have learnt Super Cat’s rules; Stop! Look both ways.  Listen.  Think!

Book Week Primary 1

What a busy Book Week Primary 1 have had!  It was great to meet so many parents in the library on Monday and receive Book Bags.  In class we have read each story and made bats, our own sea creature book and chosen clothes to dress for different weathers.

We were also surprised 3 times with secret readers and loved the stories.  We had a bookmark competition in class and are waiting to hear who our winners are.

Please remember to return reading books on Thursdays to ensure everyone can take one home the following week.

Book Week in P2/1

P2/1 have had a super Book Week. We’ve really enjoyed receiving our Bookbug bags (in P1) and our Read Write and Count bags (in P2). We were excited to have our parents and carers join us the school library! We loved hearing Mrs Robertson read us a story (and we also loved the juice and biscuits).
‘Scaredy Bat’ by Jonathan Meres inspired us to make our own bats. We like how they hang upside down on our washing line.

‘The Perfect Fit’ by Naomi Jones has lots of  different 2d shapes. We made 2d shape pictures with our partners.

We had lots of fun meeting our ‘secret readers’! Thank you so much to the parents who came into our class and read to us. We loved listening to some of our favourite stories and some new ones too.

Maths and Book Week in The Hive

This week is Scottish book week.  We discussed our favourite types of books and a common theme was Space! In Maths this week we have been learning about money.  We have been recognising and adding the value of coins, and some of us managed to work out change too!  We linked our maths with our book week chats and tried to work out how much it would cost us to go into Space.  We then did some role play and acted out us being in a space rocket.

Primary 1

This week Primary 1 have been learning all about 2D shape.  We named the shapes and used them to make shape pictures.  Some of us went outside for a Shape Hunt and we used things we found to create our own shapes.  Others took turns to use the feely bag, and, without looking, describe what the shapes were.

We continue to learn new sounds, this week o and u.  We have also been practising our Fry’s words.  Please remember to return reading books on Thursdays.  We have a limited number of books and we want everyone to be able to bring a book home weekly.

Our science learning in class is all about the weather and we have been using symbols to record the weather.  On Thursdays Mrs Beattie is in class for science and children have been learning about night and day.  This week they made sundials.

Primary 1a & b

Last week Primary 1 completed our leaning of the second set of phonics (ck, e, h, r, m, d).  These sounds will be included in reading bags going home tomorrow.  In numeracy we have been adding within 5 and learning the number bonds.  In class we have been reading the number sentences using the maths vocabulary previously shared on Seesaw.

We have begun to learn about our weather and are observing and recording the weather in a chart this week.

We enjoyed dressing up for Halloween and today went to the hall and had fun singing and dancing to Halloween songs.

Learning in P2/1

We have been learning about our bodies. We have been taking part in experiments to learn how we use our senses.

We did a ‘smell test’ to see if we could tell what was in the cup.
‘My favourite was the hot chocolate because it reminds me of the hot chocolate I get at home. My Mum makes it with marshmallows’. Belle

P1 created these super glasses when learning about the sense of sight, and P2  labelled the parts of an eye.

We had fun learning about the brain, lungs and heart. We placed the organs in the correct places on our body outline.

We’re really looking forward to presenting our learning at our assembly this week.

Primary One PE – Tennis

Our primary one pupils have had a great time pretending to make pancakes in PE! The children have been using the tennis rackets and beanbags to develop their hand-eye coordination, gross and fine motor skills. Our little chefs were shaking, flipping and catching their pancakes.

Primary 1

This week in literacy Primary 1 have been learning two new sounds; e and h.  We have been practising sounding out and blending to read small words too.

In numeracy we have been learning all about number 10.  What it looks like in tally marks, in a 10 frame and finding it on a number track.

We have also been learning about how important electricity is.  We drew pictures about how we use electricity everyday and have been learning how to stay safe around electricity.

We met with our buddies in their classroom today and had great fun together making models with playdough.
