NURSERY – Fun and Learning at home

Good morning everyone 🙂

Here are some fun Easter activities you could give a go over the holidays

Easter egg hunt – plan an Easter egg hunt in the house or in the garden. You could hide them round the garden and let your child search for them using a map or you could hide them in the house and write clues to where they are hidden. L.I I am developing my language skills and increasing my vocabulary. Here is a link to some ideas https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/how-throw-easter-egg-hunt

Easter bunny ears – Make bunny ears to wear while you do your egg hunt. You will need paper, scissors and Sellotape, glue or a stapler, (optional – cotton wool and colouring pens to decorate). L.I I am developing my fine motor skills and how to use scissors safely.

Easter cards – Make an Easter card using craft materials or natural loose parts. L.I I have the freedom to discover and choose ways to create images and objects using a variety of materials.

Match the pattern – Cut out egg shapes on paper then cut them in half using different cut lines. Now match the eggs back up by fitting the correct sections together. L.I I can identify and match patterns.

Make a wish jar – Any time you or a family member think of a place you would like to visit, an activity you would like to do, a place you would like to eat out at, a loved one you would like to visit or want to invite a friend to the house, write it down and post it in the jar. When things get back to normal use your ideas to create new memories having fun with loved ones you haven’t been able to spend time with recently. Click Here for an example.

Hope you all have a great Easter weekend, stay safe and have fun at home.

Matching numbers or letters – you could try this indoors or outside with chalk on the ground or pens/pencils in the house. Draw out your child’s name or a number line and then make the corresponding letters/numbers on paper and cut out. Let your child match them up. L.I I can recognise letters in my name and/or numerals 0-10.

You could also try matching the numerals to the corresponding dots. L.I I can count using 1-1 correspondence.

NURSERY – Learning at Home is Fun

A big Hello to all our families, we are hoping that you are all well and keeping safe at home.

Some more idea’s to try with your little ones….

We’re going on a Bear Hunt

So many children in our Nursery know and love this story so why not change it into a game for your daily walks during social distancing. L.1. Moves at different speeds – slowly, steadily and quickly.  Please put a teddy at your window for the local kids to spot whilst out on their walks. It will bring some excitement and happiness at this strange difficult time. You can share the story with your child or access online by clicking here. L.1. Engages with stories and texts in different ways.

There is a West Lothian Facebook page dedicated to this, where you can join and share your photos of your walks. Look it up and share with your friends. Find out more by clicking here.

If you have a printer at home why not print off this certificate to give to your child after your bear hunt. L.1. Celebrates, values and uses achievements to build next steps.

You can find the above certificate here.

You can continue the Bear theme by providing your child with a blanket, dishes and real food so they can invite their bears/cuddly toys to a teddy bears picnic!

L.1. Invents own stories and characters to share with others in play, imaginative and real contexts.

Encourage your child to practise their counting by playing ‘hide and seek’ with their bears/cuddly toys. You could hide their bears around the house or garden and ask your child to count forwards or backwards to a challenging number and then find all the bears.  L.1. Recalls the number sequence forwards and backwards within the range 0-30.
