It was great to start making links with our local community once again. With it being the festive season P6 were keen to visit Manse Court in East Calder and share some Christmas Joy. We exchanged christmas cards, some Christmas goodies and even a rendition of Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer! We hope that this will be just the beginning of developing our links with the community with a planned visit to the Partnership Centre already in the diary. Many thanks to our parent helpers.

We also looked at adding a Top Tip and diagrams to help our reader!
Using these skills in an everyday context we had a fantastic melted snowman sugar cookie made by a member of our class. She told us how she carefully followed a procedure,a recipe in this case to make this yummy creation. Well done! It looked amazing.
Halloween Horsey fun!
Congratulations Everyone! We did it!
Huge Congratulations everyone!
I am delighted to announce that East Calder Primary has been awarded a Silver Reading Schools Award from the Scottish Book Trust.
Thank you to all staff, pupils and families who have been reading, talking about books, enjoying libraries and sharing their love of books and reading with others.
Classes completed the Reading Schools Attitude Survey and it was great to see many of you enjoy reading more now. You said you have more interesting things to read and describe reading as relaxing and fun.
Thank you for your involvement and enthusiasm, and a special mention to those who find reading a bit tricky but keep trying.
Now that we have an award it’s important to continue to build on our Reading culture at East Calder Primary. There will be lots of opportunities to carry on sharing our enjoyment of reading and books next session.
I am so proud of you all and remember KEEP READING!

WW2 Context P7B
As we come to the end of our WW2 context in 7B I would just like to say a big thank you to the members of the class who brought in their precious WW2 family artefacts. It was great for the class to see and handle these items as it really added a personal touch, allowing the class to see how war impacted families throughout Scotland.
So just what is in those jars? P7B
We welcomed Michelle Sutherland from West Lothian Drug and Alcohol Service on Wednesday. Michelle spoke to us about identifying the different kinds of risks associated with the use and misuse of a range of substances. We discussed the impact that the misuse of substances can have on individuals, their families and friends. Moving forward East Calder has been chosen as a pilot school to work alongside WLDAS to create a HWB action plan which will then be used acoss West Lothian. Watch this space!
P7B Outside School Achievements
Congratulations to these members of 7B for their achievements outside of school. We have the rosettes for 2 clear rounds in a jumping competition at a local horse riding school, quite the achievement! The medal was for an unbeatable season with Murieston United girls team, amazing! What a talented pair. If you would like to share any achievements from outside of school please let us know. We would love to showcase your talents, and remember an achievement can be anything you are proud of !
