Cookie Recipe

Good morning!

I’ve had lots of requests for the delicious cookie recipe we used in our hubs session – so I’ve attached it below. The only rule is that if you make them at home you need to bring me one for snack!

Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookies – makes 8 cookies

Ingredients

  • 60 g vegan butter
  • 85 g light brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 150 g plain flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp bicarbonate of soda
  • 1/4 tsp sea salt
  • 150g vegan chocolate (chips/chopped)
  • 40 ml oat milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 180ºC Fan, or 200ºC regular!
  2. Add the vegan butter, sugar and vanilla to a bowl and beat with electric whisk until creamy.
  3. Using a sieve, add in the plain flour, baking powder, bicarbonate of soda, and salt and beat until combined.
  4. Gradually add in the vegan milk until the cookie dough is formed.
  5. Add in the vegan chocolate and mix with a spoon until distributed well!
  6. Split the cookie dough into 8 equal balls.
  7. Spread out the dough balls onto a lined baking tray.
  8. Bake the cookies in the oven for 10-12 minutes.
  9. Take them out the oven carefully and put the cookies onto the cooling rack.
  10. Eat and enjoy!

Robotarium Visit 🤖

All of our P7’s and P6’s were very fortunate to get to visit The Robotarium at Heriot Watt University over the last few weeks. Some of us got to meet Ameca – the worlds most advanced human shaped robot – and asked it some hard hitting questions like ‘how big is the universe?’, ‘will robots take over the world?’ and most importantly for some ‘what is your favourite football team?’
We saw some incredible robots in action, got an amazing tour of the working labs and spoke to some inspiring engineers.
We finished the day with some competitive robot games – who knew robots could play football?!
A brilliant day out for everyone, and hopefully a few new budding engineers among us!

Meteorites!

This week has been out of this world! Literally! We’ve been very fortunate to have some real meteorite samples loaned to us from the Royal Observatory in Edinburgh. What an amazing opportunity to hold, feel and look at some incredible rocks that have been travelling through space for millions (and even billions) of years.

Everyone was so engaged and respectful when handling these very precious materials. Hopefully you have heard all about it at home.

British Science Week 2024

Last week we celebrated British Science Week in school by completing some exciting science challenges!

Every class was tasked with trying to see how far they could stretch a Curly Wurly. The world record is 426.2cm – did we manage to beat it?  Not quite – but one team was pretty close! What a fun and sticky challenge!

We also had to try and build an ‘Unsinkable Boat’ using card, lollipop sticks and lots (and lots) of masking tape. How many weights could we add into the boat before it sank? There were some very different and wonderful designs created.

How can a mouse have a longer shadow than a cat?

In Science we have been investigating lights and shadows. The P5’s were tasked to investigate how a mouse could have a longer shadow than a cat. After creating cat and mouse shadow puppets they set about investigating the changing size of shadows. They discovered that when the light source is at a higher angle, the shadow is shorted. By playing around with the angles of the light source we were able to make the shadow of the mouse longer than the cat’s.

The P3’s and P4’s have been learning about magnets and forces. We have designing our own ‘Magnet Mazes’ for our classmates to try and escape! There were some fantastic designs and some very creative rules to follow!

Science at ECPS

We have been very busy in our science lab since we returned to school! In our first week back we were growing  rainbows, creating crystal geodes, planting rainforest and desert biodomes and beginning to set up a wormery (no worms have been added yet!)

We have also started our topics for the term:

P1 & P2/1 are learning all about electricity and how to keep safe:

We have been working on our classification skills this week and sorting items into electrical and non-electrical groups.

P2, P3 & P4 are investigating forces and magnets:

This week we have been investigating the affect weight has on the speed of a ball rolling down a ramp, and testing out balanced forces.

P5, P6 & P7 are exploring light:

We have been exploring how to use reflection to control light and have been using this knowledge to build our own mirror mazes.

Elephant’s Toothpaste Experiment

Good morning everyone!

As promised, here is the video of me making Elephant’s Toothpaste. It wasn’t as explosive as I’d hoped! I tried it twice using different sized bottles –  repeating the experiment to see if i could improve it, just like we do in class.

Science Fun!

Good morning everyone!

As this is our last week I had promised you in class that we would have a fun week of experiments. The biggest request was Elephant’s Toothpaste so I will make this at home this week and I will post the video on the blog and Teams after!
