This week Primary 4A participated in the West Lothian Sumdog contest.
We are very proud to come 10th out of the 233 classes who participated.
Well done Primary 4A!
This week we went on a trip to the Owl Centre at Polkemmet Country Park. In the morning we met different owls and played a game to help us understand what they eat. Next we got to look round all the cages and try to find answers to different questions. Then we had a flying display where we found out even more information. We also got to play at the Owl Park which had a huge owl slide. In the afternoon we went on a forest walk and played some outdoor games, making us think about our natural surroundings. Finally we got to play at the park where they had a big wooden castle, dragon swing and flying fox. It was great fun!
Yesterday we cleaned out our gerbilarium. Before we cleaned out their cage we needed to put them in their exercise balls. Pepper was very good and likes going in her exercise ball. Salt however didn’t want to get in her ball. Daniel and Leah had to use her favourite tube to put her into her ball. It took lots of teamwork. Once they were out of the cage team 2 cleaned it out.
It was really fun to clean out our gerbils. We need to do this every week. We work in teams of 4.
We have been busy this week in P1b learning how to write a recount.
We looked at a book called ‘Shopping with Dad’ and talked about things we have bought at the shops. We learned that it is important to sequence events in the correct order.
When we were writing we remembered to use a capital letter and a full stop at the start of each sentence. We also used finger spaces. We are learning to create a title for our writing and we are trying hard to write more tricky words by ourselves.
In Maths this week we have been learning to use position words.
We can use words like left, right, above, below, next to, on top and beside, to describe the position of objects.
We worked with our buddies to stick things in the correct location on our maps. Then we made some maps of our own.
Great job everyone!
Article 28. We have the right to learn.
This week we started to learn about exclamation marks. We got out our reading books and had to hunt through them to see if we could find exclamation marks. Then we wrote them on the board. We then thought of sentences that sound different if they had a full stop instead of an exclamation mark. We then worked with our elbow partners to come up with our own sentences and write them on the desk. Then we shared them with the class.
We had an incredible time today at The Sky Up Studios. We worked on our script writing skills before attending and it definitely paid off. In our studio groups, we had assigned job roles and everyone worked well as a team. The Sky staff reminded us of the skills we were developing throughout the process, it was a great learning experience for everyone involved.
Have a look at some of the ‘behind the scenes’ photographs.
Today we came into class to several pieces of tape on the floor. We tried to think why they were there. Mrs Spence helped by placing a 0 at one end and a 1 at the other. As a class we worked out that they were number lines. Mrs Spence then put a blank piece of card right in the middle between the 0 & 1 and asked us what would go there? We then had to write the answer on the card. It was 1/2. We then put another piece of card in the middle between the 0 and 1/2. We worked out this would be 1/4. Then we put another piece between the 1/2 & 1 and worked out it needed to be 3/4. We then extended the line to 2 and had to work out what fractions went where. Then we split into groups and tried to complete the task. Some of us managed to work in 1/2’s from 0 to 5!
