Learning inP2/1

This week has been Scots Week at East Calder. P2/1 have enjoyed listening to stories about Katie Morag. We were really surprised and excited to receive a letter from her! She was asking us to design a new tartan skirt. Her one had been ruined when she was trying to deliver the mail. We used our fine motor skills to use a ruler and created these fantastic tartans.
In music we’ve been learning to keep a steady beat by clapping and dancing along to Scottish music. This is our favourite song:

We did a brilliant job of reciting our poems in Scots and are really looking forward to hearing all the winners at our Scots school assembly next Friday.

P6 Scots Week

In P6 we started by looking a whole range of Scots words and trying to decipher what they may mean….most of us knew Mingin! For the ones we were less sure of we used a Scots online dictionary. Once we had worked out the Scots translation, we used these words in a variety of ways. Some created their own Scots comics whilst others used the words to translate the poem A Dug, A Dug by Billy Keys. Some members of the class learnt a Scots poem whilst others decided to recite a Roald Dahl story which had been translated into Scots!
