Hope you are all well today and ready to learn.

 

Try to keep your fitness levels up. Remember to tune into Joe Wicks every day! I thought you might enjoy trying out these today:

 

 

Numeracy

Choose a number between 0 – 50. Make a poster showing how many different ways you can represent this number – like what we do in class for number talks!

There are a lot of strategies we can use to help us with our times tables – these are called Multiplicative Counting Strategies. I have attached a poster below which shows some of the different strategies. They have used the sum of ‘4×5’ – create your own poster to help you remember these strategies using a sum of your own, for example – 5×3 or 2×6 – use a sum within the 2,3,4,5 or 10 times tables.

 

Literacy

Write sentences using adjectives to describe a room in your house – draw a picture of the room you described.

-Hide and seek: Write a set of instructions on how to find something in your bedroom. Think about the positional language (left, right, forwards, backwards etc) to help find the object.

– Remember to do this week’s writing task set by Miss Taylor – this will be on the Blog.

IDL/Drama

Read the legend of Saint George and the Dragon and identify St George’s Cross in the Union Jack.

You can use the story attached or Google it yourself. I have also attached a video you can watch with a follow up task:

Create a short drama at home showing the story of St George and the Dragon. If you can’t get someone to join in as George or the Dragon – perhaps use a toy at home or create a model! Perform this for your family and ask them to give you 2 stars and a wish. Feel free to take pictures to share!!

Reading

Yesterday I introduced you to the book ‘Leek Hotpot’ on oxford Owls ebooks. Log in again and have another read with an adult.

Jumbled up sentences

Here are some jumbled sentences from the story. Can you put them back into the correct order so that the sentences make sense? Remember the capital letter will go first and the full stop at the end. Read over your sentence when you have finished to check you have got it right. You can use the ebook to help you.

Phonics – /sh/ 

How many /sh/ words can you find in the picture below? Find the different picture and have a go at sounding out the word and writing them down. Is the /sh/ sound at the start of the word or the end?

Handwriting the /sh/ join

Let’s have a go at writing the sound by joining both the letters together. Do you remember all the success criteria’s relating to handwriting? Can you share them with an adult, what do we have to do to be successful?

  • Use a sharp pencil
  • Rest your letters on the line
  • Make sure the letters are the right size
  • Don’t lift your pencil off until you have finished
  • Take your time and keep trying

You could even self assess your work when you have finished, green for growth and tickled pink.

Health and Wellbeing

We are going to be exploring our relationships. starting off with our own families. Everyone’s family is different and there are lots of different types of family. Today I would like you to think about your own family. Here are some key questions to consider.

Who is in my family?

What do each of these people mean to me?

Think of one special thing about each of the member/s of your family?  -(what do they do for you that makes them special, makes you appreciate them?)

Use the template (or make your own) to draw all the people in your family. Remember, families come in all different shapes and sizes, people who are in your family might not live in the same house as you and that’s ok!

Deans Den- Tuesday 12th May

Good Morning!! I hope you are all safe and well and enjoying spending time with your family. Today, we are going to learn about what qualities make  a good friend? During group time, we talk a lot about being kind to one another, how ‘sharing is caring’ and how our actions might affect other people. I have attached an activity which shows children displaying friendly and unfriendly actions. Talk through the pictures with your grown up and then you could draw pictures of the different ways we can be kind to one another.

I hope you enjoyed reading Painting the Loft and completing the play activities.

Today I would like you to complete one of the guided reading activities from your learning pack. – Try your very best to write at least 2 sentences describing your favourite part of the story and draw a picture to go with it. For example my favourite part is when Gran tells them they can sleep in the loft. I can imagine all the fun they are going to have and stories they are going to tell each other. Enjoy!

Activity 4- Art and Design

I am not sure if you have noticed, but there are a lot of birds around at the moment, I can hear them singing day and night. They have always been there but because there are less aeroplanes and traffic we are able to hear and see them more clearly. I thought it might be a good idea to make a bird feeder for them.

Here are the instructions on how to make a cheerio bird feeder.

What you will need-

Cheerios

Instructions

1.Make a small hoop at the end of a pipe cleaner

2. Thread the cheerios through

3. Once the pipe cleaner is full of cheerios twist the 2 end pieces together and bend the feeder into any shape you want.

4. Go outside and find the perfect place to hang your bird feeder and then wait for the birds to enjoy a tasty treat.

P5/6 Tuesday 12th May

Hello all!

I am going to copy each day’s “Daily Plan” ( I have changed the name from “Read Me First”) document from Team’s “Files” into the blog as some of you have been having difficulties accessing it. I hope this helps. However it seems as though I can not put in some materials into the blog that I can into Teams. I don’t think that your issues have been about accessing Teams, more about downloading stuff? I don’t think I am going to show this part of the message after this week.

Spelling activity: choose a list of Fry’s words that is appropriate for yourself. Create a Word document with a table of 2 columns and 25 rows. Write your chosen 25 words in the first column. Using a dictionary, on-line or book, put a definition of the word in the second column next to it. I have created an example to support you if you are not sure how to do this. I have also created a dedicated folder in “Files” for this work. Please include your name as part of the file name to differentiate it from the others. Thomas and Ethan thank you for the work you have done. Please try to do another set of more challenging words. I have also created the first in a series of “HotPotatoes” activities, generated from the spelling work Thomas, Ethan and Gemma had produced. Please try it and tell me what you think. Some of you have already tried to experiment with making your own “HotPotatoes” quizzes. I think we could also use it for maths.

I fear I have been neglecting Mrs Lockharts work! As Thomas has already spotted I have created a set of folders dedicated to her work. Go back through these, making sure you have done each one.

The use of Teams went really well last week, thank you. I have tidied up “Files” and, I think, made it easier to use and find things. Please let me know if you have any issues with it.

Keep your personal projects going- you still have the folder to post them into – please check out the work Thomas, Ethan and Zoey have already put in there.

Topic – Read Ethan’s “Broons” story and Thomas’s “Oor Wullie” and “Broons” stories. Challenge: can you do better? Think about interesting ways to present these stories. Please post any ideas you have so we can discuss them. What about making a film? Do you have Windows Media Player on your computer? If not please try to download and install it. Is there any other way we could film it? I have created a dedicated folder for this work in “Files” as well.

Has anyone finished their work on measure yet? If not, finish money first and then move onto measure. I think all 4 parts of TJay 2a Chapter 13 (a,b,c and d) are useful. This will help support your work on decimals to 3 places.

Literacy – Spelling

Look at these exception words for P4 and P5 in the document. years-3-and-4-spelling-list. Start with the A words. Read each one then practice the ‘Look, Cover, Write, and Check’ method. Then move onto the B section. Keep going until you have 8 words you cannot spell. Use some of the following methods in this document to practise spelling the words:useful spelling ideas. You can return to this document whenever you want to practise your spelling.
