News From P1A

Hello and a huge welcome to all our new primary one parents and friends.

All of the children have settled in really well and are becoming more familiar with the daily school routine. I update our P1A blog every week, it is a lovely way for us to share our learning with you and keep you informed of up and coming events. I will include as many picture as I can because I know you will enjoy seeing all the super learning that’s going on. A little shout out here- if you have not returned your photograph consent form I would be grateful if you could so so, that I can post pictures of the children on this blog.

This week we have enjoying reading The Rainbow Fish and Giraffes Can’t Dance.

The books are about sharing, caring and things that we would like to be able to do (just like Gerald the Giraffe). These kinds of stories help us to think about our school values and how we treat others. I am hopeful that by next week we will have our class charter up and running. The sharing and agreeing of the charter is very important to ensure that we have the best learning environment possible (I will post pictures of it next week).

For our smart start activities this week we have been –

learning to recognise our names and attempting to write them.

Copying and continuing patterns

Threading to help with our fine motor skills

Forming numerals with playdough and other naturals materials.

In numeracy we have been recognising  and ordering numbers, counting forward and back to 10 and beyond and playing lots of counting games.

On Wednesday, the children  enjoyed their very first outdoor learning lesson with Mrs Dobbie and she is looking forward to spending Wednesday afternoons with them.

Most importantly the children have enjoyed exploring the classroom and getting to know one another again.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend and I will update the blog next week, hopefully with lots of photographs of our learning.

Welcome To Primary 1B

Welcome to our Primary 1B class blog. We will use this space to share all the many successes in our learning and to keep all the parents and carers up to date with what is going on in our class.

We have had a very successful first full week back in Primary One B. All the children have settled into school life and are already making big steps in their learning. It’s been a busy busy week. Here are some of our learning highlights.

Recognising, building and writing our names.

We have been working hard to write our names every day. We use the magnetic letters to build our names and put the letters in the correct order and then have a go at writing it on our own. We are getting so good and practise certainly does make perfect.

Learning about numbers

We have also started learning all about numbers. We know that numbers are EVERYWHERE in our world so it is important that we can recognise and write our numbers. We have been getting lots of practise at doing this already with some of the activities in the classroom.

Story Time

One of our most favourite times of the day in Primary One B is story time. We have read some fantastic books already and would like to share a few with you.

Giraffes Can’t Dance.

This is a story about a giraffe called Gerald who is laughed at because he can’t dance. Thankfully the story has a happy ending but we won’t ruin it for you by telling you. After this story we made our own Gerald. We practised our cutting and sticking skills and painting to create two different types of Gerald, they look great on display in our classroom.

We also discussed all the things we were looking forward to achieving…the things we can’t do yet…… Here is some of our examples that we shared together.

Kaleb – I can’t wait to be able to drive a car!

Arianna and Saatvik – I can’t wait until I can ride my bike.

We also have been reading the story of the Rainbow Fish.

This is a wonderful story all about  kindness and sharing. We worked hard create our own glittering scale to add to our class rainbow fish. It looks fantastic and it is going to form part of our class charter which we will be working on developing next week.

We are excited about next week’s learning already!

Welcome Back Primary 4!!!

Primary 4 are settling back in nicely and adapting well to the changes in school life just now. Last week we welcomed everyone back by having a check in to discuss some facts about ourselves and what we were looking forward to in P4. We also shared some stories of our Summer.

This week we have started our class novel which we are going to do a novel study on. We are using David Walliams’ story ‘Billionaire Boy’. So far we have read the first 2 chapters and looked at the main characters and what roles they may play in the story. We used the pictures and our imaginations to help with this. As we read, we may change our minds!!!

We have also used what we have read to draw what we imagine the main character to look like in more detail. In pairs we did a comparison between two of the main characters – Joe and his Dad. This gave us an opportunity to think of good vocabulary to show what was the same and what was different about them.

We have been working on information about ourselves to eventually create an ‘All About Me’ story. We shared information on the things we like and don’t like as well as favourite things and hobbies. Primary 4 began a listening and talking task where we had to think of a story that was true, one that was almost true with a little twist in it and one that was fake – I’m sure we will have fun next week trying to guess which is which for everyone!

Primary 4 have revisited our addition skills this week to get our brains warmed up and back into the swing of things. We have done this using number talks as well as some written tasks. We will build upon this over the next few weeks and revisit subtraction too!

We did a bit of art/health work to create kites to display in our classrooms – these tell others what we liked about P3, what we are looking forward to in P4, anything we are really good at and the things we feel that we need to improve on/need support with.

This week we also had a discussion about what we would like to include in our class charter to make our class the happiest and safest place for us to enjoy and learn in. Each of us drew our own images for each part of our charter, these will be displayed in our class. We hope to complete the rest to go on our wall next week.
